Man, the over the top violence in the previews for Absolute Batman didn't really fill me with a lot of hope but I was thinking it might still be slightly interesting...but actually having read the whole thing I think it might be one of the worst main stream comics I've read in a while. It's just full of cliche after cliche and it lacks any sense of heart to it so you end up not caring about any of the characters. I definitely won't be checking out issue 2.

With the latest issue of Action Comics Waid continued to prove that despite Absolute Power being terrible that he can still write great superhero comics. The characterization of Jimmy and Clark was fantastic and despite usually disliking the "something has escaped the Phantom Zone" plots Waid managed to make it feel new and bring some real pathos to it. I have no idea who those rogue Kryptians were, but Waid actually made me feel sorry for their condition despite the fact that they were the villain. I don't know what Clark will find when he enters the Phantom Zone next month but I'm definitely there for it.
That back up though...what the hell was that? Supergirl has memory wipe vision? I really have no clue what I just read in that feature or where its supposed to be going.

Johnny Quest continues to be a fun ride although the idea of a granddaughter for Race and Jade being so similar to them felt a little shallow.

This is why I can't get into King's writing. He's too all over the place. I'd say there's about 4 things he's written that are good. I don't get his hype

I haven't been to the shop yet, but I did have them hold a copy for me. -M
