Birds of Prey #13 JSA #12 Scarlet Witch #4
From last week, I picked up the tabloid size reprint of Superman vs. Muhammad Ali.
From a few months ago, I picked up Get Fury #1. I just heard about this limited series and I decided to give the first issue a try. I liked it a lot. I will be picking up the later issues in the next few weeks, I hope.

So Birds of Prey...just kind of ended. We didn't get any resolution to the plot concerning why the bad guy was after Batgirl or really any further insight into who the villain was and then after she's on the ropes she just vanishes back into the portal she came from. There was no sense of finality or catharsis about the ending here and the tease for the next story didn't reveal enough of what was coming next to keep my interest. Although the art is amazing I don't think it's enough to keep me reading.

I really should have leafed through the Moon Knight annual before picking it up, Watters did a surprisingly good job but I have no idea about what the latest infinity gem story line is so this time in did nothing for me.

Despite my misgivings around the first issue Flash Gordon #2 was a definite step in the right direction. The way Flash went from fighting the giant rat creature, to being captured by Ming and then being tossed into the arena felt like classic Flash Gordon. And while I get why they had to change Ming's appearance I have to say the change did throw me a little.

Although the art is amazing I don't think it's enough to keep me reading. I have mixed feelings about Birds of Prey. I like the art a lot. The lineup is an awful lot of my favorite DC characters. But I’m not really sure it amounts to that much at the end. My main problem is that the story arcs are too long! I just don’t care by the time we get to the end. It’s just not well written enough for that.

I saw that and almost put it back on the shelf, but then that weird Agatha Harkness event the issue was still pretty good so I decided to go with it.

Read Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone #1 I really enjoyed the kick off of this cross-over mini. I am not always a fan of IP cross-overs, but this one works for me with it's set up. I loved seeing Conrad and Kirowan meet with an older El Borak in an English dinner club kicking off the story. Really dug the art too. Looking forward to seeing where Zub goes with this mini. Also made me want to dig out my El Borak volume and find the Conrad and Kirowan short stories among my plethora of Howard collections. -M

I started my pile with the zero hour anniversary special... I usually wouldn't pay such a ridiculous price for one issue, but y'all know I have love for Kyle Rayner (especially with Daryl Banks doing the art), so I had to.
It was pretty good.. the story is Kyle is sucked into a pocket universe where Hal actually won, and he turned back time and made Coast City thrive..with some consequences, of course. I was a pretty fun nod to 'my' DC of the mid 90s.
