It doesn't look like everything has arrived at my lcs yet to be listed on ComicHub, but as of right now I'm getting...
Batman & Robin Vol. 1 tpb Green Lantern War Journal Vol. 1 tpb Betty & Me #16 Facsimile Ed. (one of the infamous innuendo covers) Doctor Strange #18 (I think this is the final issue of this run, as #19 hasn't been solicited yet) Space Ghost #4 Uncanny X-Men #1 by Gail Simone
I don't think the Lunar order has arrived or been processed yet (and maybe not all of Diamond as a lot due out is not there), so I should also be getting Absolute Power 2 Akogun 3 (final issue if it's on etime, 1 and 2 had timeliness issues in being filled) Batman 151 Batman/Scooby 8 Batman Hush Compact Ed. Birds of Prey 12 EC Cruel Universe 1 Free Agents 1 Gatchaman #2 Gotham City Sirens 1 Secret Wars 8 Facsimile Nightwing Year One HC Police Comics 1 facsimile ed.

ANyone else read the Anniliation 2099 series? Steve Orlando continues to lean 2099 towards horror, but this time, in space. It's weird, but mostly pretty good. Each of the 5 issues introduces a new character. Nova is someone from the past (which is a bit silly) but the Red Hulk and Silver Surfer are both really interesting. I assume they will be fighting for or against Dracula in the next series (this one pretty much is just set up).
Funny that this is happening at the same time as Blood Hunt... seems repetitve, but whatever. I'm glad they are using the setting and they toss enough from the original in to make me happy.

I didn't grab it as I wasn't a fan of the original Anniliation series but I did enjoy his Spider-Man 2099 series. Maybe I'll check it out when it gets collected.

Man, I really wanted to like Absolute Power because I love Waid...but this is just plain bad. Amanda Waller rejects going after civilians because she doesn't want to be a sociopath...and yet the whole reason the world has given Waller her political power to go after the heroes is because she orchestrated an alien invasion that turned billions of innocent people into monsters and on top of that she instructed world militaries to then kill those people resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. I get that Waid didn't write that event but if he wanted to do an event where the world turns against the heroes maybe he should have picked another character to be the bad guy so their motivation would have been more believable.

The chibi art used in this month's Bird's of Prey certainly looked fun and they actually found Babs so there was some forward momentum...but I'll be glad when this story is over. I just don't get who the villain is or why she's doing what she's doing.

Grendel: Devil's Crucible: Defiance #2 by Matt Wagner and Brennan Wagner What Happened Before: Grendel Prime has returned to Earth after centuries travelling through space. Back on Earth, the rule of the Grendels has ended, they are now prosecuted by the new rulers, the Necro-Lords. Grendel Prime manages to find two other Grendels who have hidden their identity. Plot: Not very surprising the Necro-Lords turn out to be vampires (the recurring enemies of many of the Grendels so far): Hari, one of the new Grendels tells Prime about the downfall of the Grendels, followed by the return of the vampires, who then turn on each other. And the rest of the issue is Grendel Prime beating up a group of bounty hunters sent after him.
Art: It's Matt Wagner again, so same as last time. Quite a lot of nudity (not the titillating kind) and extreme violence this time.
Overall: Really, this felt like filler. We get a short backstory, but most of it is just a one-sided battle (the battle itself is very short). At this point we already know that Grendel Prime is far beyond any human opponent so I don't feel like it adds to the story, especially as this mini is only 4 issues long.
The Power Fantasy #1 by Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard
What Happened Before: Nothing! It's a #1 issue that is not in a shared universe, a spin-off of another series or connected to anything else.
Plot: It's the 1960s, superhumans, known as Atomics, are real and the two of them meet each other in Harlem; Valentina and Etienne are far more powerful than their brethren and discuss what they need to do to safeguard the future. in 1999 there are now 6 Superpowers in the world, people who are the equivalent of the nuclear arsenal of world power, and one of them is about to come to blows with the U.S. government.
Art: I haven't read many comics by Wijngaard before (I think only some of his Doctor Aphra), but his art here is really good; I like the storytelling, the colouring and the various designs a lot.
Overall: We have had superhumans in the real world before and superhumans vs. the government. There is a lot of Squadron Supreme in here, some Authority, some Watchmen. Etienne Lux himself seems to be heavily inspired by Kieron Gillen's own version of Professor X in Immortal X-Men. It's only issue #1 so still remains to see where this is going, but it's off to a good start for me.
