Signs the holiday season is over: decorations are back in their boxes, all the eggnog has been drunk, most New Year's resolutions are already broken, and the final results of Classic Comics Christmas '23 are calculated and ready for posting. I gotta say this was a great year, notable for the large number of votes cast for comics published in the 21st century and the absence of manga and British comics. Before we get to the nitty-gritty, what say we indulge in some tasty statistics, eh?
25 participants cast 296 votes (including one disqualification) for 251 spin-off series. Tieing for first place with 11 votes each were Black Panther (with the Jungle Action run dominant) and Uncle Scrooge (with 6 votes for Carl Barks' version and 5 for Don Rosa's). Claiming the silver all by his lonesome was Howard the Duck with 9 votes. Third place went to Legion of Super-Heroes and Red Sonja (6 votes for the Marvel series, 2 for Dynamite's), each garnering 8 votes apiece. The rest of the voting breaks down as follows:
7 votes – Nick Fury, Warlock
6½ votes – The Silver Surfer, Wolverine
5 votes – Death, Dr. Doom, John Constantine, Jughead, The Squadron Supreme
4 votes – Ambush Bug, Hawkeye, Lucifer, The Thing
3 votes – Batgirl, Black Widow, Gotham Central, Jimmy Olsen, Ka-Zar, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Nemo Trilogy, Lois Lane, Moon Knight, The Shade, Zatanna
2 votes – Alpha Flight, The Authority, Batwoman, Betty, Black Canary, BPRD, Catwoman, Crossfire, Dass Jennir, Elektra, Elongated Man, The Falcon, Fat Freddy's Cat, Hitman, Jack of Fables, Jezebel Jade, Magik , Man-Eating Cow, The New Warriors, Nightwing, Penny Century, Smax, The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, Tales of Asgard, Tales of the Bizarro World, The Watcher, Whoa, Nellie!
½ vote – Galactus, Kitty Pryde
1 vote – Everybody else!
Legion of Super-Heroes led the field in first place votes with 4, followed by John Constantine and Uncle Scrooge heading 2 lists each.
Marvel and DC, unsurprisingly, garnered most of the votes between them, but a number of other publishers had respectable showings as well. It broke down as follows:
126 votes – Marvel (including 3 under the Epic imprint) 94 – DC (18 Vertigo, 3 Wildstorm, 2 America's Best) 10 – Archie 8 – Dark Horse, Fantagraphics 7 – Dell 5 – Gladstone 3 – Dynamite, Eclipse, Top Shelf 2 – Comico, IDW, New England, Rip-Off Press, Valiant 1 – Bongo, Cartoon Books, Dirou, Dupui, Fawcett, First, Harvey, Hillman, Icon, Image, Les Humanoides Associés, Quality, Topps, Tower, Wildstorm
Finally, here's how the votes broke down by decade:
1940s – 8 votes 1950s – 12 1960s – 37 1970s – 52 1980s – 64 1990s – 61 2000s – 39 2010s – 20
And now, on to your lists!

As always, half the fun of these surveys is seeing why folks chose what they chose. You can see those whys and wherefores in the original threads by clicking on the following links: The ChallengeThe First DayThe Second DayThe Third DayThe Fourth DayThe Fifth DayThe Sixth DayThe Seventh DayThe Eighth DayThe Ninth DayThe Tenth DayThe Eleventh DayThe Twelfth DayThe Near-MissesThis is where I normally encourage those of you who didn't submit all twelve entries to feel free to finish your lists at your convenience but everybody submitted a full dozen entries (except supercat, who decided to leave CCF midway through the event) so never mind! And as I note every year, I never truly consider these surveys closed, so if you're reading this down the line and want to add your own list, please do. All I ask is that you read the Challenge/Advance Warning thread first so you understand the rules and that you post your choices in the original threads.
And that wraps it up for another year! Thanks muchly to everyone who participated, and thanks in particular to those who chose series I'd never heard of but now find I can't live without. You guys rock! Cei-U! I summon the playful post-mortems!

Had Disney comics been consistently published by one company across decades, it would have taken the #3 spot for publishers appearing in this year's event. Wow.
Kurt, thanks as always for headlining one of my most cherished holiday traditions!

Cei-U!Thanks for all the hard work done on this. A quick proofreading note, you have Death listed as 1983 on mine and others lists, it should be 1993. -M

Thanks for all the work. As an aside , I think that Dreadstar would have been eligible. He was part of an ensemble cast in the epic serial.

Thanks for another fun experience Kurt. I look forward to this every year. BTW, was there any particular reason we stopped doing the Hallowe'en contest? Was it that we just ran out of related topics?
As has been noted by Kurt and others, the distribution of different publishers besides Marvel/DC was good to see. At a glance, I think there was also a pretty good distribution of decades or eras - I had five from the 1970s (no surprise) but the rest were spread out amongst the '60s, '80s, '90s, and 2000s.

Thanks again Cei-U!. I really needed this as December turned out to be the-most stressful month of a very stressful year. For me, the biggest surprise this year was LOEG: Nemo Trilogy. I really thought I was going to be the only one to list this; especially as it only just slipped in under the 2013 cutoff. However, not only did three of us list it, but two of us listed it on the same day!
