Three books in my bag this week:
Alice Never After #2 - I really enjoyed the first series and this one continues to be a worthwhile read. This issue finds Alice, as the new Queen of Hearts, dealing with the return of The Cheshire Cat to Wonderland as well as a mysterious ailment, while in the real world, both her father and sister make visits to her former tormentors, the former to protect himself and the latter to see if Alice can be restored mentally to her former state.
Incredible Hulk #3 - This was a fair letdown after last issue, as it was light on story and plot development, while being BIG on mindless fighting. Hulk takes over for Banner and picks up a new companion who is given some specific rules to follow if she wants to keep her place as the Jade Giant’s bestie. Not bad, but not all that good either.
Moon Knight Annual #1 - This ties into something called “Contest of Chaos”, which revolves around a reborn younger and hot version of Agatha Harkness; I knew nothing about this crossover event coming in, and I know marginally more now. My assessment is that a good tree lost its life to print this meaningless steaming turd of a book. Absolutely pointless and a waste of my money.

I really liked the opening chapter of The Gotham War.
Catwoman unionizes Gotham’s henchmen.
Batman comes out of a coma to find that violent crime has dropped 75% while he was out.
The Batman Family has mixed feelings about Catwoman’s methods.
I’m really hoping that the Court of Owls is not involved. No Ras al Ghul either!

I had the exact opposite reaction, while I didn't mind Catwoman unionizing the thugs thinking that Bruce would go along with it felt like a stretch and Bruce's reaction being to scream, "MY PARENTS WERE RICH!" before storming out just came off as really poor writing. On top of that the art was pretty bad, Selina looked really disproportionate at times and Damian looked to be in his 20's rather than being a kid. |

I liked it a lot better than anything else I’ve seen from the Batman family of comics lately. There isn't really a way to make it work though, it's just a too thin play on Robinhood which doesn't work in a modern setting and comes off as a flimsy political stance cooked up in college dorm room at 2 am. And yeah, it was slightly better than other Batman books out right now...but that's most because Batman and Tec have pretty much been garbage for a while now and slightly better than garbage just isn't enough for me. |

Marvel Age was a fun little anniversary anthology with nearly all the stories hitting that sweet spot. One weird thing to note though was that in Waid's Human Torch story it's played as if it's still set around the 1930's with big exhibitions and a radio show inspiring the Torch...but when he breaks free and asks the Police where his fictional detective is the officer is wearing his badge on a lanyard over a bullet proof vest like a modern cop. Not a deal breaker, but it definitely stuck out as weird that in a polished piece like this book that inconsistency didn't get caught.

Yeah, I stopped reading the Moonknight Annual after three pages and I don't intend to finish it. Man I wish I had read your review or even cracked the book open before I picked it up. Why tie an annual into some ongoing event? And more than that why make Moonknight fight some random dude I had never heard of? If it was someone cool I might have read a little longer but this was a non starter for me. I agree on Hulk as well, this was just so thin. I finished it and found myself thinking, "That's it?" It's like three pages worth of plot stretched out to fill an issue: Hulk tries to leave the girl behind but she falls into the hole, Hulk saves her and fights a big monster(not even a long fight) and the pair walks away together. I literally don't understand how it took up all the pages. |

Slam_Bradley are you still reading Black Hammer? I tried the latest, Black Hammer: The End, but I don't think I'm going to go further. Black Hammer's been a play off Crisis on Infinite Earths from the start but I always liked that it diverged from the source and became more character driven and this latest chapter turns from that and really goes all in on being a take on Crisis complete with a space station where heroes from other realities are grouping together to stop the anti-god. It could end up being good and maybe I'll check it out when it's finished but this issue bogged me down.

Black Hammer's been a play off Crisis on Infinite Earths from the start but I always liked that it diverged from the source and became more character driven and this latest chapter turns from that and really goes all in on being a take on Crisis complete with a space station where heroes from other realities are grouping together to stop the anti-god. It could end up being good and maybe I'll check it out when it's finished but this issue bogged me down. I haven't read it yet. I honestly have read only a handful of new comics in the last year or two. I'll likely wait for a trade on this one. |

Black Hammer's been a play off Crisis on Infinite Earths from the start but I always liked that it diverged from the source and became more character driven and this latest chapter turns from that and really goes all in on being a take on Crisis complete with a space station where heroes from other realities are grouping together to stop the anti-god. It could end up being good and maybe I'll check it out when it's finished but this issue bogged me down. I haven't read it yet. I'll most likely do the same with this, there was nothing poorly written about it per say I just wasn't necessarily looking for Lemire's take on Crisis. For my money the mystery on the farm stories were by far the best. |

I wished I had checked, I mean the guy at the shop is cool so he probably would have taken it back if I said this wasn't what I was looking for but man was it bad. I had no back story on this but didn't Marvel just do a pointless Mortal Kombat style event not that long ago where the winner got the Phoenix Force for some reason? |

Absolutely pointless and a waste of my money. yeah, it seems the sole purpose is to make Wandavision Agatha be in the comic universe, which is unneeded and far too late. I would have skipped it, but it has the guy from Tiger Division(tae..something) fighting him.. that was so random I thought I'd see how that could possibly happen |
