Interesting article up on CBR based on panels sponsored by ICv2 (retailer newsletter for owners of comic, gaming and pop culture stores) as a lead in to NYCC last month... articleNot sure how accurate the numbers are, but it makes an effort to loo at the entirety of the comic market not just sale sin specialty shops via Diamond, including con sales, online sales, sale through other distribution channels than Diamond (i.e. bookstore sales, Amazon, etc.)and more. A lot of it is coming form customer services and how people self-identify though, so there is a possibility for some wide variance in data, but it does provide an interesting glimpse at what appears to be an evolving market for comic books/sequential storytelling in various formats. -M

I would like to see demographics from different paths of distribution compared.

That's pretty interesting.
I think the market is def growing and yes I think women are a lot of it.
From what I've seen, they're less entrenched in the continuity and mainstream Big Two and much more willing to venture into the indies, from The Walking Dead to the Sixth Gun.
Shows and digital are also growing the field, no question.

We've got quite a number of female buyers who also indulge in Big 2 books like X-Men but not on a pull-list level...they buy what looks interesting on a casual reader basis.
