Azrael as cold and ultra-violent Batman was awesome.

Come to think of it, aren’t Hal Jordan, Barry Allen & Co. knockoff, replacement characters? I draw a distinction that the GA characters were in a different earth . In earth 1 , Flash and GL never existed.

Of the listed characters, I voted for Wally, because I actually followed his series for a good while. But I liked Kyle in JLA, and Rhodey was a good temporary Iron Man.
I also voted other, for Scott Lang. Dick as Batman with Damian as Robin was also very good.

John Stewart, the second Green Lantern (of Earth-1). One of the very few African American characters from the Bronze Age - Modern Age who felt like he was a part of the social problems of the period, and not simply a topical talking point. He was not PC window dressing, but a man who had his own grim, uncomfortable perspectives, which perfectly played into the reason the Guardians wanted him to join the Corps. He wore the costume, and wielded the ring, but he was not merely "Green Lantern of another color" or what readers would see in other knock offs such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, et al. Stewart had a stellar debut and one the best stories of the Green Lantern run.

Guy Gardner in the 80s to very early 90s is my choice. I loved his costume and how annoying he tried to be. I haven’t really kept up with him after he became Warrior.

I voted for Ben Reilly as Spider-Man. I have a real soft spot from the convoluted, sprawling mess that is the '90s Clone Saga.

Sometimes I wished I hadn't gotten so pissy with Marvel about the Clone Saga and sold 90% of it off. I kept a few issues that were sentimental to me. But now to try and collect the issues together again and/or shell out the money for the massive TPB's that collects it all seems daunting just to go down memory lane reading it again.

I went with Kyle Rainer and Connor Hawke.
Their Green Lantern and Green Arrow series were among the titles I collected from the moment I got back into comics and had a pull list until they were cancelled.

Jim Rhodes' stint was the only time I was an every-issue Iron Man reader, so that was an easy pick for me. Wally West was my other choice; his first run as The Flash kept me engaged for years, although I think it collapsed under its own weight later on, with the Flash kids.

I voted other. I wasn't considering Jack Knight a knockoff or replacement, as he is the son of the original. More of a sequel. As it is, James Robinson raised Ted Knight far more, in my eyes, than anyone else to ever write the original. My motivation for other was Mark Shaw, as Manhunter. I love the Paul Kirk version, from the Goodwin/Simonson feature, as the original version(s) of Paul Kirk was just a generic mystery man (and, before that, a generic private eye). They made him interesting. Kirby created Mark Shaw and the idea of a whole line of Manhunters was interesting, even if it was swiped, sort of, from the Phantom. Then Gerry Conway got ahold of it and turned it into the proto-Green lantern Corps-turned-villains. That never made much sense. I get the rebellion against their masters, but more as a slave uprising, rather than corruption by power. The were androids...why didn't they have programming to give them protocols? because Conway needed to read more Asimov. Even in that, Mark Shaw is the interesting character, as their dupe (though why did they need him and not one of their own?). When he learns the truth, he gives up being Manhunter; but, returns as the Privateer, because he still wanted to help people in need, or so we think. Then, it turns out he was corrupted by the Manhunter influence and possibly the conditioning that came with it and was revealed as the villain Star-Tsar and jailed. John Ostrander and Kim Yale made him really interesting as an ex-com, trying to both be a professional and help people in need. the idea of him as a bounty hunter of super villains was a really cool hook, especially as he struggled with his own past and the consequences of his previous actions. he had access to underworld information, advanced technology and training, and both the superhero world and support network, via the Suicide Squad and Amanda Waller. Plus, that initial 4-issue story arc, with the assassin Dumas, was just outstanding, with wall-to-wall action, intrigue, and nice designwork, by Doug Rice. He also proved to be a good supporting character in the Kate Spencer Manhunter series. Plus, I loved Doug rice's redesign of the uniform, inspired by Japanese hero tv shows, like Kamen Rider. It made him stand out and was still both stylish and functional.

The topic only seems to be replacements for SA characters, no Golden Age, otherwise Johnny Storm would get my vote.
I'm quite fond of Laura Kinney (Wolverine) and Kate Bishop (Hawkeye). In case of Kate, I don't see her as a replacement for Clint, but an addition. The series are at their best when Kate and Clint are interacting. I like Laura as Wolverine, not as X-23, but that may be just Tom Taylor.

It was....got my Marvel exiles mixed up. Conway handled the JLA for so long I just kind of forget Englehart. On top of ruining Mark Shaw, he would turn around and foist Millennium on us, a decade later. At least Ostrander gave us a heroic Mark Shaw, again, out of that mess.
