Oh man, I totally agree with you about Triathlon. One of the main reasons why I I dislike Busiek's Avengers. I can't believe a guy who created so many amazing characters in Astro City created so many second-rate Marvel characters. Triathlon and Jack-in-the-Box are like night and day. I don't mind the other three. I need to think a bit harder about my own Rushmore. I wonder if Triathlon was ever meant to be a Astro City resident.

Hal Jordan- Let's give the mightiest weapon in the universe to the most dull as dishwater person that lacks imagination. Wolverine- Used to be cool, then like Batman became oversaturated in every title; also giving him a definitive origin made him less interesting Ben Reilly- Should've never gone that route. Ever Hank McCoy- Was cool, even with the blue fur but then turned into a major d**k over the decades

Terra-Man, though...I can understand not getting into him, but I think he has incredible potential, enough to headline his own comic or tv series. Raised by outlaws in the old West, kidnapped by aliens who killed his pa, raised in space with alien technology, took his vengeance when he figured out what the aliens did, and returned as an outlaw to a modern-day Earth with an 1800's mindset and 2100's tech? You can do a lot with that concept, man! When I was a kid I loathed Terra-man with a passion. Someone suggested recently that he'd have worked much better as a hero, and I agree. Written well (with someone who actually knew how to portray antiquated perspectives), he'd be hilarious. Most of the rest of the characters mentioned herein, I view with reasonable regard. Marvel and DC have a ton of B- and C-list characters and I'm fine with most of them. The ones I dislike are the violent headliners who became omnipresent in the 90s: Lobo, Punisher (whom I liked as a villain), Wolverine (whom I liked as an outlier).

The first that come to mind, although more are sure to pop up later, necessitating the very difficult and costly task of re-carving Mt. Rushmore...
The Shadow King. Once a cool one-shot villain (a telepathic thug named Amahl Farouk who died fighting a young Charles Xavier), this villain was recycled into a Swiss army knife-type plot contrivance. With each new appearance, he seems to be more powerful than before and to get whatever ability the story requires (without needing to invoke magic, radioactivity or transistors. Or nanotechnology). Working as a disembodied spirit, now, he is able to possess other people, or to corrupt them, or to rip them out of their own body, and of course he can't be killed. I mean, yes, he can be killed at the end of a story arc, when some hero performs "the ultimate sacrifice" or whatever, even if said sacrifice lasts for five seconds and the villain returns later as if nothing had happened. He's basically all-powerful and therefore all-boring, as nothing but an ad hoc plot twist can temporarily stop him. You wrote yourself into a corner? Just bring in the Shadow King, blame all the accumulated plot-induced nonsense on him, and have heroes beat him up.
Sentry. I really, really hate nobodies who are shoe-horned into current continuity as A-listers that no one ever heard from due to some form of global amnesia. Especially when they're a borefest of the Sentry's caliber. The original project mentioned on his wikipedia page does have interesting ideas (very Rick Veitch-like, which is a good thing) but the character I read about in the pages of the New Avengers and Siege was thoroughly uninteresting.
Rage. From the leather sleeveless vest to the luchador mask, from the angry kid attitude to his very name, I really disliked this addition to the ranks of Earth's mightiest heroes. He came across as an attempt at writing a socially relevant character, an attempt as successful as Stan Lee's "hip" dialogue... without its weird charm.
Nova (the one who was supposed to replace Richard Ryder). Yeah, let's bring in a new Nova, one who'll be younger so that young readers can better identify with him. Only let's do it in such a way that we totally ignore the previous Nova, and even contradict key elements of his origin; in fact, let's pretend he never existed at all! Only nerds will care anyway.
It's not actually the character I dislike; he would have been fine as a new, young member of the Nova Corps; as Kid Nova, if you will... but he way was was shoved down our throats really irked me. (I don't even know if he's still around).

There aren't many characters I actively and strongly dislike, but Danny Chase is one of them. I never understood why the other Titans tolerated his presence.
I was going to comment about how I kind of liked Mantis, but then I realized I was confusing her with Moondragon. As it is, I don't think I've ever read a Mantis story.
I have mixed feelings about the Punisher. I like the Romita Sr. designed costume and I think he works well as an anti-hero to characters like Spider-Man and Daredevil. Asking readers to view him as a heroic character was a mistake, and it's kind of depressing how popular he was in the late 80s and 90s.
I love Terra-Man. He's Clint Eastwood with a flying horse and a sci-fi western backstory. Just awesome. The Post-Crisis attempt to make the character "modern" and "relevant" was beyond awful, and got rid of everything that was cool about the character.

Yes, the original Sentry mini (and at least one of the tie-ins, Sentry vs. Hulk, which I bought because Sienkiewicz) was very good. It should have been left to lie, rather than bringing him back as a regular character.

Mantis is also #1 on mine... I would add Deadpool, Squirrel Girl, and rick Jones
Whhhaaaaaatttt??
Rick Jones had his moments in many memorable stories, including those during his brief run as the second Bucky.
I can sign on to adding Deadpool (in print and film) and Squirrel Girl. Add Gambit, most Marvel mutants, Thanos (AKA discount Darkseid), anyone with rollerskates and/or a skateboard (late 70s Marvel...ugh!), most "martial arts" characters, usually spewing the most unrealistic "philosophy" and descriptions of their "skills".
DC's late Golden and Silver Age was overflowing with characters to dislike. For examples, see non-major characters (e.g., Batman, Green Arrow, Brainiac, et al.) found in Jimmy Olsen, Superman, Action Comics, etc.

Asterix (and supporting cast) - Annoying characters that aren't even funny (at least in the English translation). I just don't get it.
Sláine - uninspired quasi-barbarian fantasy with an utterly unsympathetic and unengaging lead character.
Captain Marvel/Shazam - Rubbish story set up/origin, rubbish costume, and an uninteresting supporting cast.
Deadpool - annoyingly meta-referencing character, with a tedious, self-consciously satirical style, a grating tendency to break the fourth wall, and a costume that is just a rip off of Spider-Man.

Too many to mention them all - a lot of the big DC characters, for example, starting with Superman. And most of the female knock-offs of previous male heroes - She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, She-Thor, etc.
