Not ebay, but I won this lot in tonight's Lonestar auction... issues #3-10 of Ducktales. I got the lot for $13 plus shipping (and whatever I add to make shipping worthwhile). -M

I loved the Ducktales cartoon when it was coming out, but seeing Launchpad in a comic seems wrong to me.

Again, not ebay, but the Lonestar auction that ended tonight. I saw this book in there... it's a red dress cover, and very low grade...it's listed as Fair 1.0, with a cumulative 7.5 inch spine split and a detached cover. I sometimes go after low grade 50s books because sometimes you can get them at a decent price. A CGC 3.5 sold at Lonestar in Dec 2022 (so 4 months ago) for $230, so I figured a raw 1.0 would go for significantly less, and I put an exploratory bid in at $10 when the auction started a week ago to see which way the wind was blowing and how far out of the ballpark I was, and if I was in the ballpark I would consider a follow up bid. I was in a different stadium altogether. The auction ended a short while ago and this low grade copy ended up going for $140. In contrast, a 1.8 copy in 2012 (when Lonestar started tracking the sales data for their auctions and sales) went for $17. That's how much the market has changed in 10 years. -M

When I buy things off ebay I usually just get stuff that can be bought now ("buy it now"), dont want to suddenly get sniped and outbid at the last second. I love it when a snipe works and I win by the margin of.....one cent. Never underestimate the power of a penny there.
I like Buy it now for the more expensive comics that I have a budget in mind. But the 2.00 starting bids with a couple hours left, that's when I like the snipe.

Everything MAD (approx 400ish, inclusive of Magazines & Hardcovers) was sourced through Ebay. My daughter loves these so they're her stash. The HCs have over 5000 pages of reprinted material.
And about 100+ of them survived Hurricane Ian as they were in Florida at the time. They were all in transit to my place in Miami, including one order from a seller who was in the hurricane's path. And everything arrived safely with barely any delay.

This is such a weird thread. Is this here to let everyone know how we got beat out of an auction?

This is such a weird thread. Is this here to let everyone know how we got beat out of an auction? or for people to get to talk about the books they are interested in and commiserate about the trials and tribulations of the hunt. The purchased thread celebrates the victories, but not every hunt results in victory and sometimes you want to share the defeats and frustrations with others who will understand the experience. -M

When I was buying a lot of stuff on eBay in the late 90s-early 2000s (usually not comics, but original art, toys and other stuff) it would drive me crazy to get sniped, and there was more than one time I'd be bidding against someone in real time as the clock counted down.
Today, I'll just bid what I would pay (with shipping) if I saw it at a show or flea market and forget about it. As I've said, I get just as much satisfaction making someone paying more than they'd planned as I would from getting another thing I don't really need.

I usually agree but what about the times where you bid what you wanted to pay and later saw that you were outbid by .50 ?

I didn’t know you had a place in the states.

I usually agree but what about the times where you bid what you wanted to pay and later saw that you were outbid by .50 ? If 50 cents was the incremental bid, than that was the winning price. But the other bidder might've bid $1, or $5, or $50 above my bid. If I decided what my max was, then that's it. And there've been times when I'll go in and bid 5 or 10 dollars more and still don;t have the winning bid. That's why you have to determine the most you're willing to pay and stick with it.

Yep. Also , these books aren’t really rare. There are thousands of what you want that pop up during the year.

I always look at the photos etc but when the seller calls a comic Great, or VF and its well below what they've said. That is probably my biggest pet peeve when I bid on comics.

I bid and won this gem for a great price. Though shipping from the UK was a bit dear.
