Big Barda and Mr Miracle And Tony Stark and Madam Masque. Was there a more tragic love story than there’s in comics?

Calvin & Susie kind of sum up more than a few of my relationships with women, at various stages of life....

I previously mentioned Dagwood & Blondie; but, most people have only seen it as the domestic humor strip it has been for most of the last 80 years, with Cookie & Alexander as teenagers, Dagwood having to put up with Mr Dither's tyrannical ways, Dagwood's sandwiches, and Dagwood steamrolling Mr Beasley, the mailman. However, in the early days, it was a bit of a soap opera. Dagwood was the heir to an industrial fortune and Blondie Boopadoop was a young flapper, who Dagwood's parents considered to be beneath their station. Dagwood fell hard for Blondie and his parents forbade him to date her and marry her. They interfered and tried to force him to marry another and even tried to get Blondie to jilt Dagwood.... They hit Dagwood with an ultimatum..... Would true love win the day? Dagwood was disinherited and the only money he received from his parents was a check to pay for the honeymoon. He went to work for Julius Caesar Dithers, of the JC Dithers Construction Company and never looked back, putting up with the petty tyrant to provide for his beloved and their two children, dog Daisy and her pups. Over time, he made great friends, with Herb & Tootsie Woodley, Mr Beasley (the much trampled mailman), and Elmo, the neighborhood kid who seems to enjoy spending time with Dagwood. Through their ups and downs, rain or shine, for over 75 years, they have been together. Now that is love!

Where are those early Blondie strips reprinted, cody? I'd love to read them.
Cei-U! I summon the potentially satiable curiosity!

IDW's Library of American Comics reprinted the earliest strips of their courtship and marriage. I got the images from this article: Blondie get's married! There are affordable copies of the book, Blondie: The Complete Bumstead Family History, available on Amazon. You might be able to find one or the other through the library system.

There's a FCBD sample of the Library of American Comics line form 2010 that has some of those early Blondue strips in it-thats how I read them... (there's currently copies of it at Lonestar for under $3 if anyone is really interested in getting it) -M
