Moon Knight #19Written by Jed MacKay Art by Frederico Sabbatini Summary: Moon Knight and Hunter's Moon travel underground after the Mission gets a visitor from the depths of the Earth looking for help. Plot: While I was initially thrown by the quick pivot from the vampire story to Moon Knight and Hunter's Moon cracking skulls deep under New York City once I got into it I really started to love it. The transition from the darker, more personal storyline we were following before to a more light hearted superhero romp should have been jarring bu Mackay pulled it off by creating the perfect balance to the lighter action scenes by not only providing great character moments between Moon Knight and Hunter's Moon but also some slightly twisted Silence of the Lambs type scenes with Zodiac. The ability to pair simple punch em' up plots with meaningful character growth and darker elements is a real strong point of this run and is exactly why it's definitely one of the best books that Moon Knight has gotten. Art: In the same way that Mackay's writing is fantastic for finding a balance between darkness and light,Sabbatini's art shines in that he's able to bring an amazing amount of tension to both the action scenes and the more sedate scenes where Zodiac is being analyzed. Grade:8/10

Predator #6Written by Ed Brisson Art by Kev Walker Summary:Theta and the Astar team are under attack by a Predator...the hunter that killed Theta's family and started her off on her mission. Plot: While I was originally enthralled by Brisson's set up of a human cruising space and hunting Predator the ending was a bit of a let down. While there was a lot to like about the plot over all, Brisson's character work on Theta was especially good as he made much different than just Ellen Ripley but against Predators, the conclusion came across as to rote especially for long time fans as it heavily mirrored the original film's ending only with a little robot self destructing rather than the Predator himself. There's still plenty of B-movie like thrills, action and buckets of blood so it does do a good job of capturing that classic Predator feel but with the inventive set up of a girl learning to hunt Predators after surviving an attack I was hoping for a more inventive conclusion. Still and all it was a fun book and I'll definitely pick up more, though curiously the book is going back to #1 next month even though it retains the exact same creative team. Art: It's pretty clear from every panel that Kev Walker was having the time of his life on this book. There's just a fun energy that fills every action packed scene that just couldn't exist if the artist wasn't really enjoying drawing monster slug fests like this. Grade: 7/10

Also of note, the new Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur book is amazing. It definitely skews younger with its audience so it might not catch everyone's fancy here, but I think the way it's skewering infulencer culture is pretty smart and fun. The Captain if you're looking for a new book to share with your daughters this is definitely it.

My older daughter probably won’t take to it, as she likes but doesn’t love the whole “comic book” culture, but my younger one is fully immersed in being a geek and might enjoy it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. The first two issues have been great, and the first volume by Brandon Montclare is pretty great too if she hasn't read that I'd suggest starting there. He also did Rocket Girl at Image but it's slightly less all ages than Moon Girl from what I remember.
