If you were given a free credit to buy one single comic book for up to but not exceeding $1,000 (USD, so please feel free to convert to your respective currency), what would you purchase and why?
Only one major rule here: you can't turn around and resell it to get the cash back out. You have to keep it.
Otherwise, assume what you want is actually available for sale based on your best estimate/swag of what the price might be in the current market. There's no cash back either for the difference between the $1,000 and any lower price, and again, you can't buy multiple issues totaling up to that amount. Just the one, so make it count!

Iron Man #55 for sure... that way I could complete the series eventually (That is one of about 20 I have left.. the rest are just a matter of getting them at a good deal). I think a good condition non-CGC would probably be more like 500-600, but that's OK, I'll take it.

Batman Adventures #12, (first comic book appearance of Harley Quinn) because it could very well be the only issue of the run I never have.

It would have to be lower grade, but Spirit #22 I'm not sure what grade I can swing though, Lonestar has a CGC 7.0 for $8k right now, but a raw 2.0 should be under the limit, or at least I hope it would be. -M

I have literally no idea what back issues sell for nowadays. So I have no clue.

Tough to choose just one issue. So many classic comics. I can have one answer now; an hour later I'll have another. I'll have to get back to you on that...

A suitably graded copy of this because
- it's Golden Age Batman
- it has the Joker
- Boners are good
- it will never depreciate in value

I'm not very knowledgeable about which comics are worth a lot of money or just how much money certain key issues might be worth. But that said, I'd love an Amazing Spider-Man #194, the first appearance of the Black Cat. That seems to go for around $250-$600 un-slabbed depending on condition, which is way over my normal budget for a single issue. I'm guessing I could maybe get an Amazing Spider-Man #5 from 1963 (Spidey vs Doctor Doom) or ASM #20 (Spidey vs Scorpion) in lower grade un-slabbed for $1000, so either of those would be tempting, as they are two of my favourite Spider-Man comics ever. But, I think I could get a very nice copy of ASM #194 for that price, so I'll go with that.

Iron Man #1, the one from '68. I sold my original copy during my California misadventure back in '98 and I still regret it. If I could get that and Sub-Mariner #1 for that thou, I'd be one happy fanboy.
Cei-U! I summon the longstanding regret!

I'm not a collector at all, so there's nothing I can think of that would cost that much. The closest thing I have to a holy grail book in that regard is the complete edition of the Stars My Destination adaptation by Howard Chaykin: It normally ranges in price from about $100 to $400 depending on where you look, which is way lower than the $1000 mark (so I'd want some change back, man).

Assuming FANTASTIC FOUR #1 is $1,000 or less, I would like to own that in its original form.

Gotta be honest, my friend, I am totally ignorant about comic book prices.
