Sold off some variants and made some cash so I got myself a treat.
This awesome Weird Western Tales HC / Omnibus saves me the bother of getting the early Hex issues before his solo title. It's 526 pages and weighs almost 4 pounds meaning it's not as clunky as other Omnibus (thank you!!)
Collects
All-Star Western 10-11 Weird Western Tales 12-14, 16-38

You can never go wrong with Hex. Michael Fleisher put a lot of effort into those scripts, and basically wrote the character until he exited the industry.

I had a bit of a windfall last week. First off, a care package of assorted undergrounds/indies from our own Icctrombone ... Then, I went to a toy show yesterday. Got these four books for a grand total of $5...

Adding to the Western theme, I got these 5 in nice shape. The DC Special has a small pen scribble in the DC logo by someone who felt the need to frustrate my arse but I think it can still get a FINE grade. The Blazing Six Guns needs a cleaning in the top right corner....all the same, this lot is well over 50 years old so I'm pretty happy with it.

I have all of those-- great find!
that DC Special #6 is one of my all-time favorite Neal Adams covers.

Hadn't added any red dress covers at the last couple of shows, but I did snag a Joe Simon red dress romance cover in the last Lonestar auction for a good price. Added a few things to make shipping worthwhile. I had never heard of this mag before but saw a couple of issues in a recent Lonestar auction. Didn't win that lot, but grabbed an issue to sample with this order. Seems right up my alley... I have the first and last omnibus of this series (one in HC one in sc), and am trying to fill in the ones in between at a decent price. This is volume 2. and a couple issues of the short lived Batman/Superman mag featuring original stories and reprints from the Adventures books... -M

Got some Easter Eggs here, mostly Archie HCs which collect his appearances in the Sunday Newspapers (colour) and Dailies.
The cream of the crop is the Treasury-sized 13.5' x 10.7' Archie's Sunday Finest which features the Eisner Award-winning series of the rare Archie newspaper strips by Bob Montana, in full-colour Sunday pages. Archie's Sunday Finest is the first-ever collection of the late 1940s and early 1950s Sundays.
The 2 other newspaper strip HCs, each around 300 pages collect over 1600 strips combined.
The Archie's Joke Book HC might seem small but it collects the first 11 issues of Archie's Joke Book from the Golden Age, approx 300 gags.
Some of these books are OOP and are listed individually for up to $149 each....but I got the whole lot of 5 for $79....

Can't believe there have been no other purchases in over a week and this thread was buried in Page 2. That deserves an ARRGH! Full set of 5 to accompany my Spoof set, and another obscure bronze-age set ticked off the list.

I have a snifty new red dress cover making its way towards me via the USPS but other than that I haven't even really looked for back issues since my last show except for my reg FB group, but I only post those when I pick them up, and it might be a while since I just picked some up at that last show. Love those Arrgh! books though. -M

This year I’m dedicating my energies to purging a lot of my collection, so buying is going to be to a minimum.
I hope …

I'm working on filling in the gaps to finish West Coast Avengers... I petered out toward the end of the series and there was a gap in the Bryne era between when I started buying it monthly and stopped the back issues.. for a while those were very expensive after Wandavision came out, but not so much now.. I need 46 and 47 (1st White Vision and 1st Great Lakes Avengers) but both are pretty reasonable now. I picked up 48, the (rather terrible) stories right after Tony Stark died in the early 90s (one with Spider-Man and one with Wolverine), but the last bits of the Clint-Bobbi relationship are interesting... I also got the last 2 annuals (which I haven't read yet). Once I read this batch I should be able to get the others without much trouble!
