This one was waiting for me when I got back home!
Hard to believe Rat Queens #1 (original series) is 10 years old this month. This had several things going for it
- it's the 1:10 Fiona Staples variant
- it's signed by original creators Kurtis Wiebe & Roc Upchurch. Difficult to get both on one book
- it's CGC 9.8
- great deal, single signature copies sell for more than 2x in the same grade.
I know slabbed books get mixed reactions here but I also own several raw copies of the same variant and regular #1 so I have no problem with a 'trophy' copy, and besides, slabbed books are less than 3% of my overall collection so big whoop!

DC Dollar books and other giant sized comics of that era and before are my sweet spot. I will always want to find every single one of them. Think I’m getting close, but I haven’t done a good organization/cataloging in decades. I need 76 across the entire line to have them all, mostly G.I. Combat and Superman Family issues-- it seems those books had the longest run as Dollar comics than any other title. World's Finest is in 3rd place for number of Dollar Comic issues.
There were 226 total books published as Dollar comics from 1977-1983 (earliest cover date is Mar/Apr 1977, on sale in Dec. 1976), including annuals and specials... and there were quite a few of those. And I'll agree with MDG that a lot of these books were published when DC was at its pre-Crisis nadir. Nevertheless there are some good stories out there as well, namely in the runs of Adventure Comics, House of Mystery, Time Warp, and the DC Special Series. I’m probably similar to those numbers, and with a lot of doubles I’m sure. If you want, and I ever organize them enough to make a list, I’ll let you know what extras I have. I’ve been mentally planning to go thru them “next weekend” off for years now, it’s going to happen eventually!

I keep an ongoing wantlist specifically for the dollar comics on my.gcd account, so it's current at any given time, whether it be "next weekend" or "next year"!

Treasury comics are another lifelong passion. Got rid of most of mine as a kid, no memory of how or why, so I’ve been slowly re-buying them whenever I stumble upon them for $10 or less. That is getting harder to do, so I bit the bullet and bought a 50 book lot the other day. Several that I own already, but several of the harder to find cheap ones too. Less than $10 a book shipped, I think I’ll be happy.

Nice, looks like they are all DC too! The Superman vs Muhammad Ali makes it even sweeter as that's the nugget of the lot.

The only thing missing that would make that Treasury lot super-sweet are the two Marvel/DC crossover books.

Yep, looks like the Muhammad Ali one would set me back at least 50-100 by itself.
Some of the Rudolph ones are apparently hard to find. I think there were five Rudolph Treasuries, and I owned two of them. This lot had three, the three I needed! That pretty much sold me on the lot by itself, Christmas books are another of my collecting subsets.
I’m also happy to get the two horror ones for October reading.
I think I have both the DC/Marvel superhero crossovers, though one is coverless. Of course, there was at least one other DC/Marvel crossover Treasury…..

I ordered Batman #252 and #263 off eBay last week and they’re supposed to be in the mail today. #252 has the Spook! I love the Spook! I already have this digitally from Comixology but I saw these two books grouped together and I put in a low bid ... and I won! I know the Spook is kind of dumb but it doesn’t bother me at all.
#253 has the Shadow! I’ve never read it.

This picture is heaven for me, those Treasuries seemed SO special when I could get one as a kid. I've acquired several over the years as well, but this lot is just outstanding, what a great purchase.

After reading a friend's Captain America's Bicentennial Battles, I went to our little mom and pop grocery in my hometown (population 207), and there was the Superman Bicentennial... I THINK the price was $1.50... pretty steep for 1976... I convinced my dad to buy it for me, and didn't crack it open till the ride home. And there, behind the cover of Superman and a majestic bald eagle, were the most boring "historically based" DC silver age reprints I had ever seen. Superman wasn't even featured in any of the stories, as far as I can remember. Just boring ol' history stuff. Cheated, yet again.

I picked up a few odds and ends from mycomicshop, including, among other things:
- an issue of the '70s Metal Hurlant (hard to find these at all, let alone at what I consider a reasonable price, so I was happy to grab this one.
- the 3-issue Mechanix colour miniseries that was the first thing by either of the Hernandezes I ever read, so big nostalgia value.
- a few issues of Stig's Inferno, to complete that series; more '80s nostalgia.
- the one issue of Hate I was missing, #25 (except for a few of the Annuals)
- an issue of Xenozoic Tales - I have the collections but trying to complete the series
- various Marvel comics, e.g. a Frank Thorne Red Sonja issue, John Carter #11, Super-Villain Team-Up #9 (with art by Jim Shooter, and boy is it drab), Supernatural Thrillers #3 (Valley of the Worm, with art by Gil Kane and Ernie Chan), a few Defenders issues from the Ed Hannigan run that was still going when I quit the series back in the day.
and one more Marvel comic that I cannot for the life of me remember what I was thinking when I ordered it: Marvel Chillers #4 featuring Tigra. It wasn't the character, since I've never had any particular interest in Tigra; it wasn't the writer, Chris Claremont, or the artist, Frank Robbins; it wasn't a supporting character or the villain (though I do like Kraven the Hunter). Could I have been mixing it up with #6, which has art by John Byrne? Doesn't seem likely but that's the best theory I've come up with so far.

Yeah, I came into the series I think around #10, so near the end, but luckily there was an early collection that allowed me to catch up with the story to that point. Then I bought the later complete collection and then the recent one from just a few years back, which I read last year - great fun re-discovering this first-rate series. I really hope Schulz gets around to continuing it some day. And the comics themselves are nice artefacts, as many of the independent comics of the 1980s and 1990s were, for me. They're enjoyable, attractive little art objects on their own, so I like having them in addition to the collections.
