OMG! You are so lucky! Any Bill Everett or Russ Heath? So the Lorna parts are a guy I'd never heard of before...Jay Scott Pike. He's decent, but inconsistent. The liner notes claim that they think many of the covers were touched up by more prominent artists. Jungle Action and Jungle Tales have some big names, though... John Romita Sr, Don Heck, Syd Shores, and Joe Maneely all have a story or two. It's pretty funny how the bad guys are communists in about every story... definitely not as good as the pre-code ones, but still well worth it. Jay Scott Pike is awesome! But what you have there is some of his early stuff I think. Later on, he was one of DC's main romance guys in the 1960's and boy howdy, can he draw women. After he left comics he went into advertising and became a good girl pinup artist.

Yeah, the liner notes said that, that's not my field of expertise though. He does draw a nice Lorna, but I liked Werner Roth better for sure.
You know, if you re-colored that Dolphin cover it could totally BE Lorna, that's very much like her regular outfit, only without the Jungle print and accessories.

Just got my first order from Lone Star on Friday, working off the credit I got from trading in my Rise of Apocalypse mini series. Taking those four junk books, plus another copy of issue #4 I bought for $1 somewhere, and a handful of beat-up X-Men reprints in the issue 80-90 range, I got the following that I actually wanted:
Aquaman (current series) #8 and 18 - I have been trying to go back and get the series, which I missed out on at the beginning but have heard really good things about.
Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love #6 - I couldn't find this anywhere around here at a decent price.
Conan the Barbarian (original Marvel series) #67, 86, 101, 102, 104, 106, 107, 108 and 113 - filled in a lot of the holes between #40 and #115 in my run.
Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #6, 16, 18, 24 and 30 - this put me within just one issue of the entire series, which I picked up at a store on Friday afternoon.
Incredible Hulk #345 - the last issue I needed to complete the run from #200 to #365
Marvel Team-Up #80 - just because it had Dr. Strange in it.
Star Wars (original Marvel series) #11, 24 and 82 - couldn't figure what else to get, so I figured I would make a little more headway on this series.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of the books that I got, since I didn't get anything in super-high grade. Most everything I ordered was in the Fine to Fine+ range, but the books look great. Not sure if and when I will avail myself of their services again, but I'm certainly not disappointed.

I got a few post-Kirby issues of Kamandi last week (#41, #43 and #49) and I ordered a few more low-grade Kamandis (#26, #33, #34, #35, #47, #48 and #56) that I should get soon. (When they arrive, I'll have just over half of the run! Wheee!)
I was thinking about writing a defense of post-Kirby Kamandi. The Kirby issues are among the best comics EVER. But I like the later issues as well. ("Gunfight at Coyote Corral" takes place in Los Angeles when Kamandi and Canus and Arna meet a crazy coyote filmmaker who thinks he's Werner Herzog. He gets the other coyotes to attack Kamandi and company and he starts filming it for his next blockbuster. Art by Chic Stone!)
Are there enough Kamandi fans to warrant a Kamandi Appreciation Page? I don't want to start a new page if I'm the only one commenting.
I'd also like to know if anyone but me likes post-Kirby Kamandi. I think the whole run is amazing!

I think Shax did a review of Kamandi at some point? Or am I crazy? Might be in the 'mini-reviews' thread.

Scored this beauty last night on ebay....very happy to add it, with Halloween coming. I had originally wanted to pick up some horror books for the season so this is a nice start to a series I have yet to read much of.

I love that Scorpio Rose series, but tracking down the rest of the story after it was cancelled has been a bear, as it is scattered over several random series including a back up in Coyote and a cross over with Warrior Nun Areala. You can also read the one-shot Madame Xanadu series from DC in the 80s as a prologue of sorts to that series, as the Scorpio series was based of Englehart's unused scripts for the series when he and DC parted ways over creative differences. -M
I had the one shot and read the Coyote series when I was a teenager. Marshall Rogers was always one of my favorites, so I searched out his artwork.
I'd like to get both again.

Saturday was the Halloween Comicfest, so first I headed to my LCS, the Beaverton outpost of the Things From Another World chain. They had very few comics to offer and the limit was one to a customer. I picked up the ComicFest edition of Afterlife with Archie #1 because I've read good reviews of the series.
Next I headed over to Frankenstein's Comic Book Swap, a mini-con held in a Eagles lodge on the east side of Portland. My goal here was to fill in the gaps in the runs of Promethea and Planetary that I bought at my neighbor's garage sale recently. I struck out on Promethea; no one in the place had a single issue. It was the opposite with Planetary - I got all the issues I needed plus a Planetary/Authority crossover book that I'd never heard of. And a bunch of other stuff that I didn't plan on - but that's the great thing about cons. Several of the vendors said they'd be at the Jet City Con in Tacoma in two weeks, and they know I'll be there looking for Promethea, so I'm hopeful.
The haul:
Planetary 2-4, 16, 26.
Planetary/The Authority: Ruling the World (published between Planetary #10 & #11).
Conan the Barbarian Annual #5 (Thomas/Buscema/Chan) & #6 (Thomas/Kane).
1963 - all six issues.
Four Prince Valiant comic books from three different publishers: - Issue R-08 of the King Reading Library series, produced by Charlton in 1973 but with a King logo. In addition to some PV by Foster, there are Flash Gordon and Brick Bradford stories. - The Official Prince Valiant #1 from Pioneer in 1988, all Foster. - Issues #1 & #3 of the Marvel series from 1994-5; new stories plotted by Charles Vess, scripted by Elaine Lee and drawn by John Ridgway with covers by Kaluta and pinups by Vess and Paul Chadwick.
13 biographical comics about famous women. I buy these partly for my wife - she likes biographies of women, and I like comics; win-win. Most of these are from Bluewater Productions' Female Force series; the Palin & Bachmann ones are from BOOM!'s Decision 2012 series. I didn't write these down; let me see if I can remember all 13: Sarah Palin Michelle Bachmann Michelle Obama - Year One Ellen DeGeneres Stephanie Meyer Princess Diana Margaret Thatcher Oprah Winfrey Caroline Kennedy Nancy Pelosi Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (former First Lady of France) Meredith Vieira Betty White
That's all 13! I guess Alzheimer's hasn't got me yet.
Last but not least, I picked up a well-regarded OGN from a few years back, Stagger Lee, written by Derek McCulloch and illustrated by Shepherd Hendrix, and John "Derf" Backderf's memoir about a buddy of his from high school - My Friend Dahmer.

Thanks to the progressive sale from TFAW with stuff at 70% off mentioned in the bargain thread, I ended up spending a bunch on stuff I had been looking for, wasn't planning on spending any more on comics this year, but decided it will be an early X-Mas gift to myself as I know my mom will send me money and I will just use it to pay the credit card bill on this instead. So Merry Christmas in October to me, here's what I ordered...
The Will Eisner Companion SC Frank Frazetta Art and Remembrance HC DC Archives Golden Age Hawkman Vol. 1 Marvel Masterworks Golden Age Captain America Vol. 1 SC Marvel Masterworks Golden Age Sub-Mariner Vol. 1 SC Lobster Johnson-The Satan Factory prose novel The Michael Kaluta Sketchbook series Vol. 1 SC (have vol. 3 & 4 already)
I could have kept adding to the cart, lots of great stuff there, but I did have a budget to keep under.

1963 is such a great series. It's too bad it never ended! Just like Big Numbers! Grrr!
I got them when 1963 first came out and I thought it got better as it went on, with Mystery, Inc. and Fury being kind of fun but average and then getting better until Horus and Tomorrow Syndicate were almost as good as the best Silver Age comics.
But when I re-read it earlier this year, it all seemed great. I especially enjoyed Fury and Mystery, Inc. a lot more this time around. Heck, I feel like reading 1963 again! Soon!

DC Archives Golden Age Hawkman Vol. 1 When this comes, would you mind letting us know if this is an actual new printing or just a tip-in copy of the misprinted volume? As of 2009 at least one site (ToW) was selling tip-ins as new printing. Amazon lists a 2011 printing, but as usual the reviews are the same for both volumes.

The JLA crossover is pretty good, while the Batman one is just OK except for a couple of scenes. Never read The Authority book.

I need to read all three crossovers, now that I finally have the omnibus, but I feel like I have to read the entire series again first. Not a terrible task by any stretch, but I have so much other stuff to read.

Went to a small a small show at a local VFW last Satyurday to meet up with some friends. Didn't plan on buying anything, but ended up spending $9 (including a buck to get in).
