***PLEASE READ ALL RULES BELOW FIRST!!!***
Inspired by the structure of a "debate club" you might find in high school, I present a CCF "Contest of Champions" event!
Here's the simple idea...I present a statement, in this case, was the 1960's the best decade for comicdom?
Two debate teams will present opposing views on this, one team for, one team against. You must volunteer to participate, but you may not choose which team you will be on, that will be randomly assigned. Like debate club, this will test your ability to persuade and build arguments regardless of which viewpoint you are tasked to support.
All CCF members will then be allowed to vote for the team that most successfully supported their position. My hope is this might be an interesting and fun twist on a classic topic...thank you in advance for anyone who might be game to try it!!
I did my best to come up with the detailed rules and structure below, again please read carefully and let me know if you have any questions. May the best team win, and most importantly everyone have fun!!
RULES AND SCHEDULE OF THE CONTEST
Event 1 (5/31 - 6/4): Call for volunteers!! Please post below if you would like to participate.
Event 2 (6/5 - 6/8): Teams announced, "quiet time" for teams to prepare. No postings allowed.
Event 3 (6/9 - 6/11): Team A (in favor) posts their arguments. No rebuttals or outside comments allowed.
Event 4 (6/12 - 6/14): Team B (against) posts their arguments. No rebuttals or outside comments allowed.
Event 5 (6/15 - 6/17): Team A posts their rebuttal comments to Team B.
Event 6 (6/18 - 6/20): Team B posts their rebuttal comments to Team A.
Event 7 (6/21 – 6/22): Voting period, open to all CCF members not on an existing team.
Event 8 (6/23): Final tally and closing comments.
A few last comments. Members of each team may collaborate offline and present "group" arguments or just post individually. I will also announce when the window for each new event has opened up.
A final thanks to our esteemed site custodian shaxper for being a great sounding board and his encouragement on this!

Two brave souls have already come forward, will you join their ranks? I’m soliciting for more volunteers early and often…come join the debate!!

Also, who would be interested in just following along and seeing this type of debate, even just as a spectator? Anybody in particular you'd like to see as a participant?

Count me in. I have an approach (to whatever team I am placed) that I will try to take that I don't think others will argue. Maybe they will. We shall see

I won't participate, but I will definitely follow the debate.

Yeah, I'll definitely pay attention and follow along, but I know that my time commitments aren't going to let me participate. That and formal debate rules drive my anarchist ass up a wall.

I feel this is outside my skillset and comfort zone, but, oddly enough, one of my 2022 resolutions was to try something that I am not skilled at, and have never done, so count me in. Be interesting to see what team one makes. Wish me luck!

Be interesting to see what team one makes. Wish me luck! Awesome! Luck most certainly wished, glad this fits into how you might approach that resolution! Appreciate all the volunteers so far, as well as folks who have indicated they will be watching from the stands. We'll need your votes at the end as well! BTW, pinkfloydsound17, I have to say I'm intrigued as to what your approach is going to be

I'll be interested in reading the arguments and will follow the thread but I would prefer not to participate on either side of the question.

Again, appreciate all the responses, very helpful to gauge overall interest. And while I've made the call for volunteers with the hope we have a couple of at least decent size teams (which seems to be happening), no hard sell on how to participate, whatever folks find the most fun

This whole concept is reminding me of WWE’s Survivor Series. Can’t wait (sorry, folks, I see life through the prism of wrestling).
