Did not realize this was a backup feature in some issues of Rima! Not sure how I skipped over it in the past, but pulled out an issue last night and totally enjoyed it. Need to get the rest of the issues to complete the story.

You could point to just about any one of the Filipino crowd; I'd say Nestor Redondo, after Nino.

He was actually spectacular. Not too many artists at the time would have even come close to the bar that had been set, and he held his own. Sadly, the writing did not live up to the standard expected.

I can't remember to be honest, it's been so long since I read those issues.

Yeah, I felt like it did.. and later, after 3 issues, Wein left, and it all fell apart... and became - something other - than what it had been. Those issues were written by David Micheline and Gerry Conway. I know it says "Because YOU asked for it!"... nobody asked for this.

I thought the stories were mostly okay after Wein but having that guy from a previous story return as the costumed Sabre was a bad idea, very out of place.

I mentioned Stephen Mooney as one of my up and coming underrated creators. He is currently doing a Rocketeer mini (Rocketeer The Great Race) for IDW (with some great back matter showcasing Dave Stevens and the creation of the Rocketeer done by the folks who are making the Dave Stevens documentary that is in production). These are the covers done by Mooney for the first two issues... and a sample interior page... -M

Its as if someone said the original title design was too evocative of their horror titles, and wanted to get a Spider-Man title vibe. Nevermind the fact that House of Secrets--very book Swamp Thing made his debut in was--by that-time--a full-on horror anthology, so the original Swamp Thing title design fit for the theme and direction of the character.
EDIT: Actually, the new title seems like more of a direct swipe from 1968's three-issue version of the Marvel Super-Heroes title--
--more than Spider-Man.

The whole design and the cover itself are too bright and superhero-y for Swamp Thing.
Getting back to the thread topic, I agree that Redondo was under-rated.

It's Pat Broderick, for me. Such a criminally underrated artist. Hi Myke Gee, wanted to first add my welcome, it's a great community here! On Broderick, I liked his style a lot on Doom 2099. Nice examples of his work here!

I haven't seen a lot of Pat Broderick's work but I do like what I have seen. I remember him best from the few issues of Captain Marvel he did with Doug Moench, which I thought helped raise that series up from out of the doldrums it had fallen into. Unfortunately their run didnt last long as the title was cancelled before they really got going. Too bad, I thought Moench and Broderick made a good start and had a chance to do something that might bring back the glory years of the Starlin era.

It's Pat Broderick, for me. Such a criminally underrated artist. I can't imagine what it was like to be the first real "regular" artist on Micronauts, after Golden... that had to be intimidating. Once he came on line, I was like "Golden-who?" I loved his dynamic style and his Gil Kane influenced figure drawing. He has such a clear, recognizable style, and really ran with the crazy, cosmic world of Micronauts. He's one of the few artists back in the day, that I would buy the comic based on his art in the book alone.

Pat Olliffe. I know his work from Untold Tales Of Spider-Man and Spider-Girl. He was perfect for those titles, and now that I think about it, I want look up what else he's done.
