Moon Knight #8. Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio.
Moon Knight is currently in jail due to the events in the Devil's Reign series. However Hunter's Moon steps in for Marc. A legend/mystery in the neighborhood known as Stained-Glass Scarlet pulls in Hunter's Moon who deals with her in a different way than Marc would.
Despite this issue being done by the regular creative team it still felt like a fill-in. It did move along the weirdness that is Hunter's Moon as an ally/enemy. It also showed how he is very different from Marc. However the "new" villain Scarlet just wasn't interesting.
With the heroes escaping from jail this week in the Devil's Reign series Marc will be back as Moon Knight next issue!

Some Quick Comments:
Devil's Reign #4. This series has been decent viewed as a Daredevil series with lots of guest stars. As an event? Not so much. However the last 3-4 pages of this issue were stellar.
Superman: Son of Kal-El #8. The fill-in art work really lessened the quality of this current storyline. Liked seeing Jon interacting with Jackson/Aquaman. Nice to see Jon dealing with other heroes.

Hellboy and the BPRD: 1957 "Forgotten Lives"Written by Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson Art by Stephen Green Summary: Hellboy and Professor Brutenholm go on what they think will be an easy father and son mission but find more than they bargained for.
Plot: With the Lobster Johnson card on the cover I think I was more hyped over this issue than it probably warranted which led me to being more disappointed that it didn't contain a meet up between Hellboy and the Lobster than the story deserved. It's not that it's a bad story, the character moments between Bruttenholm and Hellboy were well done and the concept of the Heart Island potter's field cemetery off the Bronx being haunted was fun but it was thin after that. A low stakes haunting that gets solved when Hellboy realizes he remembers the name of one of the people interred in one of the mass graves wrote a couple of Lobster Johnson pulp stories just feels like it should have been the kind of story used for a quick back up story rather than a full issue.
Art: Green's characters are occasionally a little too thin and angular making them look more like scare crows than proper character(especially when drawing Bruttenholm) but his Hellboy was really great. It's too bad he didn't get a chance to do much here though, as the story was mostly talking heads so it was hard to judge whether he could handle a regular story.

I've only read the first few issues of the newest run and I love it so far, but unless its someone new Stained-Glass Scarlet is a reoccurring character from back in the day that I always loved. |

I've only read the first few issues of the newest run and I love it so far, but unless its someone new Stained-Glass Scarlet is a reoccurring character from back in the day that I always loved. That makes sense. I guess this version is a reincarnated Scarlet. Like Marc himself she's died and come back before so it's possible, though a little weird because she was alive the last time she appeared though I think that was back in the late 90's. |

The concept of "gods as stories" was interesting, allowing Hunter's Moon to do something really cool with Khonshu while fighting "Stained Glass Scarlet". Yeah, it was a fill-in, but I'm intrigued about how they might build on this in the overall Moon Knight/Hunter's Moon rivalry and mythology. |
