The shining beacon this week was Prince Hal, who received 5 votes. Holding aloft a torch of 4 votes, the runner-up is M.W. Gallaher. james, Graphic Autist, and Icctrombone all relieved 2 votes as a gift from the French. And the huddled masses on 1 vote, yearning to breathe free, are bert, Rob Allen, dubipR, Jeddak, Crimebuster, Mister Spaceman, Farrar, and Jesse. Thank you, my friends, and as always, foxley, aka Magister Ludicrous. Will have a new contest up in a few hours... doctor’s appointment coming up first.

Congrats to Prince Hal. I didn't give that cover a second look, so I am curious why people voted for it. Of course people liking different covers is part of the fun of this contest, so this isn't a complaint. I am just wondering what the appeal of that cover was for others.

It's right up there with covers getting numerous likes and still losing the contest.

For myself, it was a NEW cover, not seen before. Bright, colorful, a piece of memorabilia from a different time. It popped and stood out as unique.

I have a fondness for Biro covers in general. I like the dynamic feel of the cover even though its mostly posed figures. The looming Iron Jaw provides menace and creates a tension the the cover that adds to the dynamics, as does the angle of the Statue and the "fireworks effect" around the statue (or maybe it's a torchlight effect), which is aided by the coloring giving it that muted glow look I often associate with light provided by pyrotechnics or flickering flame. The inking and muted coloring, especially on Iron Jaw amplify that effect as well. It was a cover I found when looking for covers for this and would have used it but Prince Hal had beaten me to it.

Also: I'll vote for any cover that includes He/She.

The only cover I could think of for this one was the Kamandi cover, but I prefer to use comics that are more personal to me (i.e. I have read it). I should have remembered the Hellblazer cover.

This is one I was hoping to see but didn't show up in the contest--
Suddenly, Lady Liberty is left-handed! (Reed Crandall did the interiors, but the cover artist is uncredited). Makes me wonder if they reversed the cover art stat by accident prior to assembling the cover layout, because the hammer and sickle are reversed as well (based on the version used by the USSR).
USSR style hammer and sickle....
