George Perez has posted news today I never wanted to read. His art defined so much of my early comic fandom. This is a gut punch on so many levels. He is such a lovely human being as well as such a talented comic artist. -M

Yeah, it's really tough. From when I started reading comics when Crisis came out, George Perez has been a big part of the scene. It feels more immediate than when creators whose careers were mostly before I was a reader. I also met him when he did a signing of Hulk: Future Imperfect at a comic shop in my local mall when Future Imperfect first came out. I was too shy and young and not really quick thinking to say anything to him though. Because I don't really go to conventions that have actual guests, I think he may be the only comic creator I've met in person.

I think my first look at Mr Perez's art was Infinity Gauntlet. Would be an honor to get his name autographed on one of those issues. Very sad news indeed. But he seems to be taking it in stride fairly well for the amount of time he was given.
They've married almost as long as I have been alive. That's amazing.

Truly sad news. Perez is a big part of my comic book life which permeated so much of my collecting. He has delivered great joy to his fans and we will never forget him. A true GREAT AND BELOVED creator that brought his joy of comics to everything he created.
Glad to have met him 6 years ago and give him my personal thanks for providing my youth with such wondrous memories.

Very sad news. He was one of my favorite Marvel artists of the Seventies. And he seems like a terrifically decent human being.

George was getting started when I began getting more access to comics. Always loved his work. There was an enthusiasm to everything, even when it was rougher, in the early days.
I have never met George and won't get that chance; so, thank you George, for all the joy that you gave me.
@#$%ing cancer!

I cried when David Bowie died and I feel I will cry when Mr. Perez dies as well.. Both were such important pieces of my teen years.

Always a man of strong character, which what was noticed about him, even before his immense talent. I vividly remember his earliest years at Marvel, and climbing the ladder as he made grand leaps of ability on his unforgettable Logan's Run adaptation. Obviously, his DC work is among the best in the industry's history, but its his genuine character--heart-- that stands out, and there were/are so few like that in the business.
I can only pray he is not going to be in agony for every one his remaining days.

I got to meet Mr. Perez once at the Pittsburgh Comicon years ago. It was Sunday afternoon, and he had just jumped up on his table and was throwing out swag to the few remaining guests still gathered around. He had such an obvious passion for what he did and a love for his fans.
F$%& Cancer, for taking yet another of the good guys way too soon.

Not only an amazing creator that had a hand in some of the best stories over the years but obviously a genuine person that exudes class and incredible strength of character. Thank you for the many hours of enjoyment you gave me reading your work. Cancer sucks. I feel for you and your family as you deal with this.
