I like Rogue's next cover appearance better: Rogue appeared on Al Milgrom's covers for Rom #31 and 32 before this one, which isn't my cup of tea - I wouldn't have guessed Dave Simons was the inker if he hadn't signed it.

On the flip side, I was never fond of John Byrne's cover for the debut of the Justice Machine... and much preferred Mike Gustovich's wrap-around cover for the second issue... That cover for Issue 2 was so awesome! I got the issue in a "grab bag" box of comics I ordered through the CBG back in the 80's. I didnt' live near a comics store, and loved the "not from the big two" take on superheroes, with a sci fi twist. I have always thought Titan's costume was one of the most iconic designs ever. And I loved this scene: Well, it was inspired by Hawkeye's time as Goliath, in the Avengers, minus the chest harness and a different color scheme. The character survived all the series changes pretty much as he began. Loved the concepts and when Tony Isabella was writing it, at Comico. The art could get a bit wonky, as Gustovich was a far better inker than penciler. I remember first seeing the cover to #2 in Jeff Rovin's Encyclopedia of Super-Heroes and he pretty much trashed the book, in the article attached. I thought it was a bit of the pot and kettle, with some of his work at Atlas/Seaboard. When I finally got ahold of the Noble issues, after picking up the Comico material, I thought it was a great concept and a darn good story, with occasionally wonky art. At least it was different and, to a certain extent an original take on things (mixing traditional superheroes and Orwell, to be sure). I was able to get all of the Noble issues and the Texas Comics annual, then finished the Comico run and followed through Innovation (which messed up to much, before going back to the original costumes and closer personalities of the characters) and the start of the Millennium run. trying to remember if I didn't care for it or they never finished the storyline. I seem to recall that they only did a couple of issues and then stopped publishing and it was completed later, in a collected form.

There's no way you could get a good cover out of this character based on the costume alone. But the insistence that he is "your favorite pin-up" adds insult to injury.

Whereas the text on the cover of Detective Comics #359 works (you can almost hear William Dozier speaking those lines), here the text gets a bit in the way of this lovely Gray Morrow cover for the debut of Star-Lord. This is the STARLORD I know.

Hmmm, did he give fashion tips to Clint Barton at some point...? -M

This was a nice cover debuting Doc Sampson. Too bad the character never really achieved any type of popularity. For me its a visual thing with Doc Samson. A Flash/Thor hybrid with green hair is what I get when I see him visually and to me that makes no sense and is visually silly.

The first DC Silver Age character to be introduced in his own title, rather than be given a try-out in Showcase, The Brave and the Bold, or another magazine showed up in 1964 on this excellent cover by Irv Novick.

One of the very few characters whom Jack Kirby is said to have never really gotten a proper handle on is Spider-Man and yet he nailed it right out of the gate with this debut cover. Interestingly, the only time Ditko missed the mark with character, in my opinion, is on his version of the cover. The legs looking like they're kicking for dear life to stay afloat, the asymmetrical 'SPIDER-MAN' ensuring that no part of the cover be allowed to breathe, the brightness, Spidey's head looking just too flat. The Silver Age Flash has a great cover which makes sense since that was Carmine Infantino's forte. So fast that he can't even be captured by film. And while not a major character, The Silver Age Plastic Man (new in that he was the original's son) has a cover which justifies the series entire existence.

This fudges with the OP's intent, but as a team debut nothing beats this cover:

This fudges with the OP's intent, but as a team debut nothing beats this cover: Oh, I don't know..... Okay, technically, they debuted, as the Justice League, on the final page of Legends, however, this is their first official meeting. Back to All-Star, is it just me, or does it look like Flash, Spectre and Dr Fate are tilting the table up?
