Are You Afraid of Darkseid?Written and Illustrated by DC's up and coming talent Summary: Damian Wayne and the Teen Titans gather around a campfire to tell spooky stories. Plot/Art: I'll give this book an A for effort as I really do enjoy anthologies...but like any anthology the quality of stories often fluctuate from one story to the next and which ones are hits and which are misses will probably be different for just about everyone depending on their own personal tastes. For my tastes, though a few stories were just okay and many a little bland only one really held my attention and that was the Phantom Stranger story, "The Endless Staircase" by Collin Kelly with art by Jesus Hervas. The story of the Phantom Stranger wandering through time collecting lost souls after something terrible happened to them or before they could do something terrible was definitely haunting but the real gem was the art by Hervas; he had a dark, moody style that was reminiscent of Mike Mignola's which is a major win for me. And although this book only had but one story that really appealed to me the concept of different heroes telling stories from different corners of the DC universe was really fun and anthologies are a great way to showcase new talent or known talent in new ways so I'll always support them even if they don't always blow me away. Grade:7/10

Had an early trip to the store this week:
Batman: Adventures Continue #5 : Some back story for the evil Mayor... It's kinda nice to have a down to Earth Batman story, definitely enjoying it.
Justice League Infinity #4 : Then we have here the opposite of a down to Earth story... it's like Super-Hyper-Multiversal mode. This issue is focused on a nice Darkseid, which is super weird. Not sure I love this story overall, but I want to see where it goes.
Beyond the Black River #1 : I feel like I've read quite a few versions of this story recently, but that's OK. The art style here is pretty unique.. Conan looks much more 'normal' than usual.. perhaps too much so. It's a great story though, so it should be good... The Picts are pretty well drawn for sure.
Billy the Kit #1 : An anthropomorphic Western? Yes, please. How could I refuse? The art is somewhat sketchy, but it definitely works for the story. This is just the set up for the adventure, but it's a really great set up.. the runt of the litter growing up to get revenge on his family's murder... perfect western trope. The religious overtones seemed a bit out of place, but I'm hoping they'll have some sort of purpose at some point. Is it too soon for a Usagi crossover?

Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary 100 Page Super Spectacular.
9 stories highlighting different times in Diana's 80 years.
"In Memoriam" by Michael W. Conrad, Becky Cloonan and Jim Cheung is the current era leading into #780. "Dreamers" by Jordie Bellaire and Paulina Ganucheau is a Young Adult styled story. "Fresh Catch" by Amy Reeder is a Golden Age styled story. "Dear Diana..." by Mark Waid, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez and Joe Prado is a Bronze Age story. "Dated" by Tom King and Evan "Doc" Shaner is a late 60's story. "Better Angels" by Vita Ayala and Isaac Goodhart features Cheeta. "Saturn Rising" by Steve Orlando and Laura Braga is an interesting story that I'm not sure where it fits. "Immortal Mysteries" by Stephanie Phillips and Marcio Takara is a more recent style and "Low Orbit" by G. Willow Wilson and Meghan Hetrick features Diana in the future.
Overall a good anniversary issue. Not quite as good as say the Green Arrow or Batman ones but better than the recent Aquaman issue. This is more for the casual reader to give a glimpse into Diana's history. For long term readers like me I was a bit underwhelmed. Classic eras by George Perez or Phil Jimenez and others get ignored in favor of the more recent stories. If Perez or Jimenez weren't available Nicola Scott would have been perfect representing those types of stories.

Amazing Spider-Man #75. Written by Zeb Wells. Art by Patrick Gleason.
Part One of a 19 part story that features the return of Ben Reilly as Spider-Man. A corporation named Beyond has hired Ben to be their Spider-Man. When Dr Octopus was Spidey he trademarked the name but Peter never renewed the trade mark so Beyond has picked up the rights to the trade mark. Ben and Peter discuss this and go into action together against the U Foes. Peter gets radiation sickness during the fight...
A new direction (at least for the next 7 months). At least the editorial letter in this issue makes it sound like this will only last for 19 issues. I'm not a fan of stories written by committee that feels editorially driven. I basically bought this because I wanted to see what Marvel will do with Peter & Mary Jane plus I like Gleason's art.
