Are we still seeing the whole "villain explains his evil plan to temporarily incapacitated heroes" trope in 2022 comics? Nah, now it's mostly story arcs of a gala ball in designer clothes, followed by a mini-series of brunch.

when was the last time a comic book had a Villain? Likewise, I am saddened by the fact that comics COVERS are now mostly hero shots, and almost never an exciting scene with said villain about to put the hammer down on the hero. HOW WILL HE GET OUT OF THIS ONE? compare these two.... Ha Ha... "Beyond Amazing"... if you say so.

See Tony Stark in the MCU. Most of those films are less than tolerable because of ridiculous inflating of characters into some sort of expert in fields having nothing to do with that which they've invested their lives, ideas and energies into (to get them to the point of becoming the subject of the story). In other words, Stark and time travel...no. But in the movies, Stark is a genius level human being. In one of the movies he read a book about one of the sciences and understood it. It's more plausible that a genius could be a quick study for other sciences.

You’d think these publishers might want to showcase villains because a) villains are cool, and b) it might attract readers (I know many have a pull list, but there’s always the chance that someone might be hooked). I know things are different now. As a kid, there were regular titles I followed, but I also followed supervillains. Favourites included Juggernaut, Kang, Mandarin, The Stranger and Scorpion. I was guaranteed to pick up a title I didn’t buy regularly if Juggernaut or Kang was on the cover. It could be a title I wasn’t really interested in (I never quite gravitated towards Alpha Flight and Guardians of the Galaxy), but if Scorpion or Mandarin were on the cover, it was a guaranteed sale. The era of pull lists and Previews orders probably make my point redundant, but at least showcase the villains where possible.

I was partial to the Juggernaut as well and I also would pick up anything with Mysterio. In fact this cover got me reading this run of Daredevil:
If it had just been a picture of Daredevil, no matter how nicely done, I probably wouldn't have given it a second look.

No "genius" understands every field, and within fiction, a character understand fields far beyond his established grasp is devoid of conflict & as silly and implausible as Bugs Bunny plugging Elmer Fudd's rifle with his finger and causes the blast to blowback on Fudd. The only decent plot point from the MCU (regarding Stark) was the fact Stark had no awareness of / understanding of Pym's technology, etc.

Great cover! I was a fan of the Mandarin. I was always curious about his appearances. I learnt that he was in a Punisher comic a few years ago, but it would never have hooked me because when I discovered what comic it was, it was just a generic Punisher cover. I realise they are targeting it towards the pull list readers nowadays. I get that. But some of us probably don’t want to spend every waking hour “doing homework” and reading Previews. Life’s too short! So maybe showcasing a villain every now and again might hook me back in. Who knows, I may see a favourite villain and then jump aboard that title, even if only for a while. But if the likes of the Punisher’s comic are just gonna be generic hero poses for all eternity, then, quite frankly, I’m not gonna browse synopses just to see if Mandarin or Juggernaut are in an issue. Show them to me instead!
