Those good ol' Halloween records. Anyone remember them? Some had spooky sounds that neighbor's would play as kids came to their doors to trick or treat. Others were much scarier haunted house records, and then you had the records that would play out a frightening story. My favorite is The Haunting from Gayle House Records (1971). You might remember it from this comic book ad: This record featured a story about a blood banshee that was haunting the room. If you did not leave the room you would die. Then you hear the howl of the banshee and kids getting killed one by one. I first heard this at a friends Halloween party when I was 7 or 8. His parents had all of the kids come into the living room, and then they turned off the lights and dropped the needle on this sucker. They had props like a flying grim reaper and would throw bloody hands and other objects into the room. There were more than a dozen kids in there, so this record was particularly effective because with all of the pushing and screaming I had no idea what was going on. Listening to it today and it is pretty corny. Someone put it up on youtube, check it out for some fun Halloween nostalgia: I also remember Disney's Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House. This one is not as scary, but it has some of the best classic ghost sounds I've ever heard. It also has a really weird moment where the narrator breaks out into some Chinese at the 13:07 mark. What are some of your favorite Halloween records? Check out this Classic Halloween Records blog to see if you remember any of them. Happy Halloween!

A friend of mine was lamenting in an email just an hour or so ago that the world is obviously in severe decline, as he hadn't heard "Monster Mash" so far this season.
Second song I ever learned all the lyrics to, after CCR's "Up Around the Bend."

A couple years ago, someone created a video from another spooky record hawked in comics, using art from Myron Fass's Eerie Publications
And this tear, someone made a TV commercial version of a ubiquitous comic ad:

Awesome idea for a thread!
Sadly, while I grew up with a healthy record collection, mine were focused largely on Casey Kasem's Top 40. I didn't have many kids records even as a kid.

My daughter likes... I was around her same age when this first came out...crikey... And it still holds up (movie and song) to this day. What a classic. I hear Dan Aykroyd is making a Ghostbusters 3!

Wasn't Ray Parker Jr. sued by Huey Lewis for stealing the melody of the story (copyright infringement), iirc Lewis won the case too.

Rocky Horror's Time Warp
It's somewhat Halloween Related - but I was watching it at my Girlfriend's place last night and I did not know that she likes this movie. Kind of odd, for a woman that has good taste in movies, but anyway this is her wacky movie that she enjoys watching on Halloween for kicks.
May not be a "record" but a classic song from that wacky movie starring Tim Curry and Company.

My daughter likes... I was around her same age when this first came out...crikey... I used to sit through this just to see Terri Garr at the end. I really like Terri Garr.
