Project Patron #3. Steve Orlando & Patrick Piazzalunga.
The United Nations replaced the Patron with a perfect robotic duplicate 30 years ago after he died fighting WOE.
The team responsible for being the "pilots" for the robot Patron are getting closer to finding out how & why their leader was murdered while "guiding" the Patron. Meanwhile Mammon a foe of the original Patron frees WOE from his captivity beneath the moon's surface....
The more I read this series the more I picture it as a TV show on Netflix or Amazon. I mean that as a compliment. Orlando has taken different ideas and mixed them together into a new configuration that is very entertaining.

Nightwing #81. Tom Taylor & Bruno Redondo.
This issue continues the best superhero title on the stands right now. Dick Grayson and his supporting cast of Tim, Babs and Haley (Bitewing) his dog are written so perfect. Plus Blüdhavens new mayor, Melinda Zucco, and new villain Heartless.
There is a great scene where's Dick's faith is rewarded. The last page reveal could be great going forward or a total failure depending on where Taylor takes it.
This is really good.

I had a crazy amount of comics this week (11!).. definitely the most since I started the pull.. maybe new #1s in fact. Here's the first half:
Usagi #20 : Now this is more like it! I really like Yukichi, and while the story is pretty straight forward, it works really well. Looking forward to the 2nd half!
Demon Days: Mariko : The art, as usual, is amazing.. I do love me some Peach Momoko. THe story isn't as strong as the first installment though.. perhaps it's because it's more of an intro. Maybe it's just me though, it's not any more of a standard trope that the Usagi story was, yet the Usagi story really made me happy, and this one was a bet meh. The MU reference this time (with Black Widow) seemed much more shoe-horned in, as compared to last time, when it was totally in the story flow. I'll still be buying this for the art as long as it goes, but definitely not as good story wise as the first.
Space Pirate Captain Harlock #1 : Ablaze has another property besides Conan! And a good one, too! This is a new story, which is cool. I don't really too much of the original, though I know I'd seen some of the anime. Definitely fun, and I'm happy to support the publisher to get as many Conan stories as possible!
Nottingham #4 : Business is definitely picking up. The Merry Men make their move, and Marian is called out... great stuff. I still haven't quite decided if I like the art style (I know, 4 issues in), but I'd really digging the story.
Minky Woodcock: Girl who electrified Tesla : This will read great as a trade.. its a bit slow getting the singles, but very worthy of the Hard Case Crime banner. They're doing a good job to tossing in a bit of history without it being silly or too much.
I'll probably read the 2nd half tomorrow!

Couple more from the pile:
House of Lost Horizons #2 : This is the typical 'meet the suspects' part of the mystery. Hard to review this sort of story in single issues, but seems like it's going to be good overall.
Seven Swords #1 : Another of the historical mash ups I like... this one is a post-Musketeers D'Artagnan trying to get revenge against Cardinal Richelieu. As the title implies, he's going to be collecting some other great swordsman (and women) from the era to help him. Should be fun, and there my be some weird stuff in here, too... seems Richelieu might have his own cult of sorts. The back cover promises Don Juan and Cyrano to be added to the team. The writer seems to have a pretty good handle on things, so should be fun.
Compass #1 : This one is set in the middle ages... not sure exactly what they're going for yet, but it was good enough with a unique enough setting to get me to read the next issue for sure. The main character is a muslim girl on some sort of mission for the church, while the bad guys seem to be the Golden Horde (who are in England somehow). Should be interesting, at least.

Yeah, this was another fantastic read, lot's of great action and the character moments with Dick, Tim and Babs were really awesome.I think the only weak spot remains Heartless...he just isn't interesting at all and I was really hoping he'd meet a quick demise here and we'd move on from him but it looks like we'll sadly be getting more. The reveal was a little light too and I'm not sure where it will go but with everything he is doing well I guess he gets a little faith.

I don't know if anyone else checked it out but I really loved Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. I don't know how Supergirl and Krypto ended up in space or how they came to this unnamed back water alien planet under a red sun but the sword and sorcery adventure she's embarking on their was a lot of fun.

I'm a bit concerned about the cliff hanger... could lead to a mess, but it could also be really great.. we'll see. I LOVED the bit where Tim calls the dog Bitewing and when Dick protests he already has a name, he was like 'we all have 2 names' hilarious stuff.

I was tempted by the cover with her holding a sword for sure, but didn't pull it, and it wasn't on the shelf. I might well get the trade if it goes well though.

It wasn't as strong of a first issue as King usually delivers, but it was definitely good enough to keep me around for 7 more issues.

Grendel: Devil's Odyssey #7 Written by Matt Wagner Art by Matt and Brennan Wagner
What Happened Before: In the far future, Grendel Prime, the cyborg paladin, is sent into space to find a planet where humanity can build a new home with only a single android, Sigma-7, for help.
Plot: Grendel Prime has set himself up as a pacifist saviour on the planet Bojan-Feq, hoping to stop their barbaric ritual of the Ordeal (basically a trial of combat to the death as a way to solve any conflict). He now has to face the Supreme Leader of Bojan-Few, Gama Gorach, the undefeated champion.
The Good: I was very enthusiastic about the last issue and this did not go where I was expected for it to go. (Which actually was very naive of me, this is Grendel. It will always end in death and destruction). The story takes a large swerve straight into political satire here. It's very, very clear who Gama Gorach is supposed to represent and while it's not subtle, I do think it's effective as a story and it shows that Grendel Prime's newfound pacifism is not an answer to all this world's problems (something which is heavily foreshadowed by Grendel remembering the words of his Khan when he agreed to become his paladin.) In another title, a wise hero would have realised this sooner and not put themselves in this position or would have through cleverness or luck managed to find a way around it, but this is Grendel and he's not a hero. Also it's Matt Wagner on art.
The Bad: I was very enthusiastic about the last issue and this did not go where I was expected for it to go. Which is basically the weakest form of criticism: the story did not do what I wanted it to do. But I saw so much potential in the way the story was going last issue. Interested to see how Wagner is going to wrap this whole tale up next issue though.
8/10: Not what I was hoping for, but it definitely is not bad.
