This episode of The Avengers left quite the impression on a teenage Chris Claremont: I think it left quite an impression on every red blooded male who saw it any time between the mid-60s and the 80s, via re-runs. I hit puberty some 20 odd years after this episode first aired, but when I saw it as a horny adolescent in the 80s I'm sure it had much the same effect on me as it did on my father's generation.

This episode of The Avengers left quite the impression on a teenage Chris Claremont: The villain in that episode was played by Peter Wyngarde. Funny enough, the very 1st AVENGERS episode I ever saw had him in it... but it was the other one, "EPIC", where he played an over-the-hill actor dragged out of retirement to make a SNUFF film. That sounds nasty, but as it was a 5th season episode, it actually was one of the most over-the-top LOONY comedy episodes they ever did. (And to think, I didn't realize this as a kid, partly because I first saw it in B&W instead of color...)
The first time I saw FLASH GORDON (1980), I immediatley recognized Wyngarde's voice, even though you NEVER once see his face in the entire movie.

Grainger's name doesn't come up often enough, but he's one of the few inkers who really caught my eye way back when (the first time in an issue of Thor, as I recall). He had a clean, clean line that just looked blacker than that of most other inkers. I really enjoyed his work whenever I saw it! Here's Grainger's cover of STAR-STUDDED COMICS #14 (Dec'68).

It's cool that even the guest star's NAME inspired Claremont.

Claremont has some... err... interesting and not necessarily in a good way... quirks to his writing besides just clunky dialogue. It flew over my head as a kid, but over the years on various forums and sites I've seen it pointed out he has a tendency for a lot of domination/submission story types and a lot of sexual subtext. How many mind-control stories has he done? Maybe I'm looking at it through a modern lense, but mental domination and characters forcing others to do things against their will seems a bit rapey. Also tons of sexual subtext, mostly with Kitty Pryde I'm familiar with. Also LGBTQ+* coding with her. He kind of threw any attempt at subtlety out the window in later years, too. Xtreme X-MEN's Storm The Arena story was basically his BDSM lesbian fantasy story. Dude's a little freaky and enjoys tormenting his characters, especially women, too much. *Not to in any way imply there is anything freaky about LGBTQ+ content, coded or otherwise. He just did a lot of G/G sexual innuendo. I wonder why he hasn't done a Wonder Woman story set in Marston continuity. Claremont would be having a field day. Diana wouldn't ever leave Paradise Island.

George Perez. Hippolyta gets raped by Heracles, imprisoned, he's the reason why they left the man's world in the first place. 3000 years later, Heracles bangs Hippolyta with consent because she was horny for 3000 years. Why Perez?

Indeed. Some 30 years after some of these episodes aired, she still managed to "impress" me as a teen. Beauty, demure, and class like she had I would think would impress any person. But that show had both my first crush and my male idol all in one.
