Just throwing this out there ... The cover of the upcoming 20th IDW issue introduces a new rabbit character. This character's design feels so different to me from Stan's regular work that I assumed this was a guest artist drawing the new character in a collaborative cover.
Is it possible we're getting a look at a character that may have some sort of role in the new animated series, and the design of this character is based on the tv show's character designs? Or am I reaching here? Maybe I'm just thrown off by another rabbit having a different look than Usagi and family.

There may be a resemblance to the stylistic look of the upcoming Gaumont series:
EDIT: It turns out a portion of the sketch I posted was not official, so I have removed it.

I sure hope that the editors pay attention to detail as much as Stan does. The cover shows the new character as being left handed based on how he is holding his sword. Rare and unusual but possible, I guess. More concerning is the look of the sketch shaxper just shared for the upcoming Gaumont series. It is my understanding that a right side over left side (as shown here) is used to signify a dead person. In a more practical sense, a right over left can also mean the dogi gets caught when a weapon is drawn.

In regards to this issue, the recently released preview shows the inside cover which lists a couple variants: a virgin cover for Dogu, and a blank Stan Sakai sketch cover. I'm guessing these are releasing to coincide with SDCC.

I don't know if it's a tease for the series or not but the new Rabit Ronin character was pretty cool.

It would be interesting if this new character was connected to the Netflix series as I believe it has been said the animated will occur 1000 years from the comic.
