Usagi Yojimbo #9 Story and Art by Stan Sakai Colored by Tom Luth Summary: Just before dawn the Neko Ninja attack the caravan, can even Usagi prevail? Plot: I presumably have this one waiting for me in my pull box but as I'm not sure when the shop will open up I decided I'd double up on this and get it digitally as well so I could read it now and I have to say it was well worth it. Although the second chapter lacked the cultural insight of the first the action was great and the conclusion with Lord Hebi and Kagemaru drinking Habu sake was fantastic. Sure, it was just two characters drinking sake but the tension between the two was just fantastic. Art: As always Stan was great here, as I mentioned above the last scene was arguably the best of the whole story and much of what made it work was done purely through body language and eye contact. The imbalance of power between Hebi and Kagemaru was easy to see, and the tension that created was absolutely delicious and perfectly highlighted the message that Hikiji would gladly eat his own if it meant success. Grade:10/10Anyone else reading the new IDW series?

Anyone else reading the new IDW series? (Sigh) I'm still trade-waiting. Boy am I hating not experiencing these issues as they hit the shelves. I used to be a floppy purist. Then the Saga editions came out, and I sold all my floppies, figuring "this is the way to go from now on." My mistake

Heck, with this one I didn't even wait to get my hands on the physical copy as the store I go to is in a mall...which is closed due to the coronavirus, so I'll eventually have it digitally, floppy, trade and hopefully in some nice big hardcover someday.

I've been buying the series since it came out, but am way behind in my reading of new stuff. Trying to catch up under the current circumstances, but the read pile is deep.

Little to say on this 2nd part of Tatami other than stating the obvious of the skill of Stan the writer united w ou th Stan the artist. He has become adept in knowing the pacing, the settings and when write versus allowing room for the artistry to breathe or telling the stories action. I wish other writer/artists would read Usagi and take notes in masterfully done stories.
