That's a beautiful post, Brutalis.
It's funny how I imagine everyone looks like their avatar. I really do believe that a green rabbit is posting when Confessor posts.
I was on a forum where avatars just disappeared. I believe the host didn't like them. It was sad because I always equated the users' avatars with how they looked like in real life (one user, who I really liked, had a Bionic Man figure as his avatar). It never felt the same communicating without some sort of imagery representation.

It never felt the same communicating without some sort of imagery representation. I was on another proboards forum and just login and put up an avatar of General Patton (see picture below) and cropped ... gone for two weeks (on vacation) ... when I came back all the personalized avatars were gone and replaced by an generic avatar based on ranks and posts. I've immediately cancel my account and never looked back. I had 4 posts on that forum and that's all I had because the host wants to do things his way and a year later the forum was gone. That's was 5 years ago.

On this other forum I was on, it became a lot less personal when everyone's avatars disappeared.
It also led to confusion. Everyone who knows me knows I am a passionate advocate for comic book letters pages. I had posted passionate defences of them during one topic. But one user responded to me and was quite harsh. He seemed to think I was anti-letters page. Which I am not. My theory (and I have no proof) is that without the avatars to identify us, he probably read a comment from someone else, but saw my name nearby - and equated it with me. Easy enough mistake, I suppose.
I really believe that could happen. If you don't have avatars, someone could be rushing through a thread via their mobile phone. And depending on how their eyes are, they may well see my username, but accidentally equate it with a comment above.
So there are practical benefits to avatars, too.

Mine was drawn by a 12-year-old cartoonist - one of Greg Hatcher's students - in about 30 seconds, without me being aware it was happening. (...) I've always suspected that image was a portrait, and wondered who did it (or if you did it yourself). Thanks for sharing that. And yeah, Greg's students are awesome - like their teacher.
Compare the drawing to the photo I posted here: classiccomics.org/post/337652/thread

I would not say favorite. But I do tend to identify people by their avatars. Well...then there's EdoBosnar who is apparently a Gray. I had my avatar at CBR. We did have an weekly avatar contest there for quite some time. And I think mine came out of that when the subject was something about representing where you live. I liked my spuds so I kept them.

I hope you consider these to be the best potatoes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey_RoyalFurrin' tators. Just over 50% of the potatoes grown in Idaho are Russet Burbanks. Most of the rest are Russet Norkotahs or Ranger Russett's. Most of them are processed for fries, hashbrowns, tots, etc. Though they're pretty good bakers also. Though we do grow others as well.

Confessor and Icctrombone ... Was it this one? Or this one? I can't remember. I changed it because of some technical glitch, IIRC.

I don’t think it’s either , although the second looks like it.

Yeah, your current one is like the worst picture of Einstein I've ever seen.
