I had no idea Usago had been around for so long until I got today's issue. I mean, I knew it was a long running book and all and that I've enjoyed it since I was a kid( I discovered it through my love of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!) but when put into actual years it was a bit surprising. So, Happy Birthday Usagi and here's to many more to come!

Ain't it wild that our favorite Ronin Bunny has enjoyed a lifetime 5 times longer than the average rabbit! Usagi and Bugs must be drinking from the fountain of youth soda stand! Here's to another 35 and longer!!!

My wildest dream for Usagi has always been Stan taking on apprentices and expanding the Usagi universe into an entire imprint, with titles for Jotoro, Sasuke, Inspector Ishida, etc. But, of course, this is too personal a work for Stan to take that route, and that's the source of so much of the franchise's longterm success. Who is to say what the future holds? I'm thankful we've had 35 years of Usagi and will appreciate any additional work Stan bestows upon us.

I thought it was quite wonderful having stories and art continuing the adventuress with other elves than the main story's tribe. . Eventually though people want the original creator back. I do agree for being thankful of all that Stan has provided us with over the years and his love for Usagi keeps the stories coming!

It.. sorta worked with Elfquest. They split the main title into two books where there were too many characters for one.. that was pretty good. When they started doing other spinoffs, it was a little weird. I'm not sure in this market it could sustain a 2nd book, but perhaps making the regular one an anthology? That would work

Stan has said there will be a Chibi Usagi book coming out by his wife Julie. I believe it launches in May next year. I'm not sure if it's a mini series, one shot, or ongoing series. I think the Hellboy universe has shown how a creator owned property can support various ongoing books, with Hellboy, BPRD, Lobster Johnson, Witchfinder, Abe Sapien and a couple shorter series (Sledgehammer 44 and Frankenstein Underground) all being well regarded runs, even when under the care of different writers and artists. Mike has said that while he sort of oversees everything, he's not always super involved in the day to day managing of the various titles. The problem is that in that capacity, he hasn't had the time to write and draw a monthly comic for a while, which worked out for him since he wanted to take a break from drawing full issues anyway. Since Stan is so involved with his own book, I'm not sure the Hellboy formula would work as well since Stan doesn't have the time to oversee various spinoffs, though I suppose Chibi Usagi is the exception since he shares a house and workspace with that artist, so sees her every day. That said, I know they've considered doing something along the lines of the Mouse Guard Legends of the Guard series where selected guest artists and writers contributed to one-off short stories.
