Today I went to my local Comic shop to find out that they were going to close in 3 weeks. I've been getting my new books there for the last 12 years. This sounds weird but I've been walking around bummed out. This might be the end of my new book purchases. I don't know if I have the energy to go to a new comic shop or to start up a mail order account. The owners a good guy but he's in debt and mentioned something about losing his apartment. The end of things are always ugly.

Sad to hear Icc. Always difficult to find a shop you like these days as they are getting fewer and farther away it seems. My go to since I started collecting in 1980 has moved around 4 times now and with each move the place has shrunk. The owner has been wanting to get out of the "biz" for the last 10 years but no buyers wish to take over. He has said (we get together every so often for lunch) that one day he and his wife are going to say it is over, and he feels that day is coming soon. He put it off this year as his daughter's marriage prompted him to keep going if only to help pay for the wedding itself. I normally go there about every 2-3 months for my ongoing issue purchases and digging through his dollar room of goodies.
There is another shop nearer me that I'll pop in/out of as it is on my drive home from work and readily accessible. The only thing that I don't like about the store (love the owners and staff) is that like any new place, they just don't have room or can't afford to carry too many current ongoing's and if you don't hit the LCS the day new issues arrive you may not be able to get it without having a "pull box" with them. And I'm well past having enough things to interest me for a weekly pull and I am just not that interested in new/current stuff.

The only titles I'm buying monthly are Action, Superman and Savage Dragon. I could probably get the Superman books at comic shows for far less than 4 dollars but no one carries Savage Dragon anywhere. That I have to order with a comic store, and it's not worth it to have a pull list for one book.
