Yes ! It couldn't happen to a more perfect rabbit samurai, and Stan Sakai, one of the most deserving creators in the business. Can't wait. I will get Netflix for this.
I hope you don't mind my merging your post into this thread. Yes, I'm quite excited too!

I'm happy for Stan and since we have Netflix I'll be checking it out. I would have preferred traditional animation over CGI animation, but it's not a deal breaker for me, nor is the descendant rather than Usagi as the protagonist, but if I am being honest, I would be much more excited if it were Usagi himself in traditional animation.

When you adapt what has already been done, inevitably some details change and conflict with the source material. Also, much as with Space Usagi, if the scope of the series isn't bound by what happens in the comic, we can be surprised. Characters can change, evolve, betray, die...it might be amazing. And, by the way, if this is modern day, it would be so exciting to get a Terry Miyamoto cameo.

Netflix did a really good job on other CGI stuff they've done (Godzilla is excellent), so that gives me some hope... I'd rather an actual adaptation i think, but new stories from a descendant could be really good too, we'll have to see how it plays out.
Most importantly, congrats to Stan Sakai! Hopefully the net result will be more people will check out Usagi! I suspect a finite, stand alone series would be more feasible for non-comics people to pick up than when that watch a superhero movie and think about Marvel or DC.

Okay, so this is second hand hearsay that someone I am acquainted with posted after watching Stan in the Groo video panel in the replacement SDCC online:
Haven't seen the panel in question myself, so take it with a grain of salt.

Geez, I've sort of forgotten about the events of Senso. I can't even recall who died in that storyline.
