while that is some great art, it concerns me a bit that the marketing push is all about alternate covers and not story.
I guess that makes sense, but still. I'm not sure Conan is going to support multiple variant covers, seems like a bad sign for the long term viability.

story at Comics BeatIDW suffered a major blow today, "going dark" (i.e. being delisted) on the NYSE and laying off nearly 40% of its work force (including its entire marketing dept. and half of its editorial staff according to reports). What it means for the future of IDW is up in the air right now, but the moves are intended to streamline the company and cut costs as revenue dropped on several fronts form 2022 to Q1 2023. I hope all those who lost jobs are able to recover quickly and find work elsewhere, and that IDW does manage ot recover. They put out a lot of great stuff, including the Top Shelf label and all those Marvel Artists Editions everyone oos and aahs about. -M

Marvel announced two new Art of collections yesterday. Oddly, they are not publishing them, but working with a publishing partner (Clover Press) to Kickstart both volumes. The two volumes announced featured the Marvel art of Alex Maleev and David Mack. I am a bit taken aback that Marvel now has to resort to Kickstarter to get some of their volumes to press. -M

There was a time when my IDW pull was nearly as big as any other publisher but right now it's pretty much just Turtles and Usagi and Usagi is leaving.

Jim Lee was named President of DC Comics today. He had previously been a VP and Co-Publisher/Publisher, but now he is officially President, taking the position that at one time had been held by Diane Nelson and others.

IDW has issued a press release about their restructuring and a statement to their fans and retailers about the future. and this is the statement to fans... I hope they can pull things out. There have been a lot of books I have enjoyed from IDW over the years and it is always bad when there are less options for creators and when folks lose jobs. -M

FCBD is this Saturday. There is a Lev Gleason Crimebuster #1 among the offerings. No, it's not by our Crimebuster but it might be of interest to some. There is also a first look at the new Conan the Barbarian from Titan comics, a Frazettaverse Sampler from Opus and a first look at the new Red Sonja comic form Dynamite among the offerings that interest me. For fans of the undergrounds, there's a Fabulous Freak Brothers edition among the offerings this year ( MDG Rob Allen) A preview of the new book Fishflies, which looks to be a new Jeff Lemire book, an Archie horror book, and some others. -M

This was solicited as the main story for Lev Gleason Presents #9 a couple of years ago now. However, as far as I can tell, that series only put out two issues despite soliciting up past issue #10. I had pre-ordered the Crimebuster issue but it was never printed, so I'm happy to finally have a chance to read it. The new Lev Gleason publishing house has solicited a bunch of cool looking stuff, and put out some previous FCBD issues hyping upcoming stories that never happened. I hope they eventually get it all on track!

Roquefort Raiderand here's the promo ad with a look at the art of interior artist Roberto De La Torre. -M Roquefort RaiderFCBD Zero issue came out today and it was a strong debut. Retold Conan at the Battle of Venarium in a story without any dialogue, but strong visual storytelling. Zub's caption capture the Howardian tone/feel well. Looking forward to the series launched. I splurged a bit on the preorders and got a couple of different variants (reg cover, de la Torre variant. Zircher variant and Mignola variant) something I rarely do, but I want this book t succeed so I am putting some $$ behind it to support the launch (and to get some displayable art as well). There's a group shot of REH and many of his most famous characters in the backmatter of the FCBD issue that I would kill to have as a poster or a print. -M

Calling all Conan Comic fans Roquefort Raider and others Anyone who was interested in the Conan FCBD issue, and didn't get a copy, Jim Zub just posted this... Not sure of the where or how, I'll post if I see anymore news. If any of our US members needs a physical copy, I have an extra I would be willing to send off to you, just contact me-first come first serve. If you live outside the US and want a copy, I'd be happy to oblige if you are willing to defray some of the godawful cost of international shipping these days. (I also have an extra of the Frazettaverse book, and depending what happens with a Lonestar order that is pending that is supposed to have some of the FCBD freebies in it, I might have an extra of the Sonja book). Message me if you are interested. -M

A free digital version is good news indeed!
Is comixology still a thing? I remember reading many FCBD books there.

(...) Is comixology still a thing? I remember reading many FCBD books there. I don't think so. I know Comixology.eu, where I had purchased a number of comics, is now defunct and - since it's an Amazon company - whatever books I had now have to be accessed through Amazon, through the Kindle app I think (haven't really had the time/patience to figure it out).

On Saturday the DC and IDW FCBD offerings were downloadable through my Comixology/Kindle app.
It has the Conan FCBD and the Nightmare Before Christmas ones in there for pre-order at $0.00, with the 5/10 release date.
