Coming in January Paul Levitz and Alan Davis on an Avengers series... looks like a book that appeals to the classic demographic... -M
Speaking for myself, I'm honestly not sure ... I think the old classics themselves might be enough for me in most cases, especially in series like the Avengers that had a good, long run that I like. It's hard to judge because I'm not a big fan of Alan Davis's style. Perhaps if it were an artist I liked better I might be more interested, but even then I'm not entirely certain. I suppose I won't know until some combination of writer and artist that I find appealing undertakes a similar nostalgia-driven project.

Jim Starlin announced today on social media that a new Dreadstar project is coming. No further details given. Assuming it will be another kickstarter first project.

We've seen a rash of comic shops closing in this pandemic and post-pandemic economic environment as market corrections have reshaped the industry even with a pandemic boom in sales, and we've seen the distribution landscape change as the Diamond monopoly was broken and Luna and PRH now vie with Geppi's company for dominance in the market as the market too saw corrections, and now we are seeing the other show drop, as the market correction is starting to impact publishers. Aftershock Comics has been struggling to make creator payments for a while and yesterday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in California. And according to the article at the Beat I linked, it may be the first of several dominos to fall as the market correction continues and publishers struggle with cash flow and other issues. I hope all the creators owed money for work already done get their due. I haven't read a lot of Aftershock's output, but I have enjoyed the little I did sample. I hope they can pull out of this nosedive and actually reorganize under chapter 11 to move forward, and not have this be their death knell, but this is just one more sign that the comic industry as we know it is evolving to meet the market demands of contemporary audiences/customers, and aspects of traditional comic publishing that we've been accustomed to for decades may start falling by the wayside as new market models and paths to market emerge to better serve the industry moving forward. -M

I saw that on CBR yesterday.. too bad, they've done some good stuff. Rough Riders is definitely my favorite from them.. and they semi-memoir boosk they did Shadow Doctor and Almost American were both excellent. I'd recommend Jimmy's Bastard if you like Ennis too. Kaiju Score is great too.
I do hope everyone gets paid and their current projects finish.

I am interested to see what that project will be. -M

Roquefort RaiderHere's the cover to the first issue of the new Conan the Barbarian series coming this summer from Titan Comics by Dan Panosian. logo looks a little wonky, but overall the cover looks good. There will be a FCBD preview of the series, which I believe launches the following month in June. -M

Dan Panosian sure has staying power. His art was featured in SSoC, then in Dark Horse's Conan series, and now in Titan's!
It's already a hat trick, and he took part in one of Glénat's books too, as I recall! Respect!

Also one of the nicest guys in comics too.

The Buscema vibe is strong in this one! Nerdist has a preview with a look at a little bit more of the interior art. Titan is doing a series of reveals this week across a number o comic and geek culture sites, each one revealing a different variant cover and glimpses of the comics. I know there are covers by Pat Zircher and Mike Mignola among the variants. but haven't seen the actual covers yet. (I know Pat Zircher has been excited about doing this, as he is one of the few comic creators I interact with often on Twitter and a huge fan of Conan and other pulp heroes). Here's the schedule for the reveals: -M

Roquefort RaiderPat Zircher's variant cover for Titan's Conan #1 is an homage ot Barry Smith's cover to Conan #1 for Marvel. Pat posted a side by side comparison... -M
