Stemming from the Top Comic Book Rumbles event, we've tallied the 50 comic book characters most frequently involved in this community's favorite comic book battles. Some are iconic favorites, and some are just fun to watch getting demolished, but all are characters we love seeing involved in a throw-down.
50. Mohammad Ali: Got to love when a real-world legend manages to throw down with both Superman (Superman vs Mohammad Ali) and Wildcat (New Frontier #5).
49. The Losers (DC): Who doesn't love a ragtag group of Nazi punchers? The Losers were recognized for two separate rumbles, one in Our Fighting Forces #152, and the other in The Losers Special.
48. Vision (Marvel): The android with the Heart of Gold showed little of that when he unleashed the fury on Count Nefaria (Avengers #166) and Wonderman (Avengers #158).
47. Godzilla (Marvel): So big that he even stands among the giants on the comic book page. two different Godzilla battles made their way into this event, one involving Super Beasts (#14), and one involving...a rat (#18)??
46. Firelord (Marvel): The poor herald only got acknowledged for his throw-down with Spider-man (Amazing Spider-Man #270), and yet that fight got multiple nominations.
45. Fantastic Four (Marvel): Dr. Doom and Galactus sure managed to keep these folks busy, not that the participants of this event minded!
44. Hawkman (DC): I'll admit I didn't see this one coming. A battle with terrorists (Wednesday Comics), as well as his involvement in a throwdown with Batman, Superman, and Captain Marvel (Batman/Superman #4) helped solidify his place on this list.
42 (TIE). Karate Kid and Nemesis kid (DC) managed to earn this spot together for their epic throwdown in Giffin and Levitz's Legion of Super-Heroes #4.
41. Wildcat (DC) for his battles with both Mohammad Ali (New Frontier #5) and the Injustice Society (JSA #10)
40. Cutter and the Elfquest gang (WARP) earned two separate nominations, one for their battle with the trolls (#16), and one for Cutter's face-off with Rayek.
39. Green Goblin (Marvel). Spidey and the Goblin's final confrontation in Amazing Spider-Man #122 got a lot of love from our participants. Gobby got stranded here because Spidey is ranking far higher on the list.
37 (TIE). Flash Gordon and Ming the Merciless both earned this spot for their epic showdown in the 1938 Flash Gordon Sunday strips.
36. The X-Men were recognized several times during this event, perhaps most unusually for when they fought themselves in X-Men #100.
35. Captain Marvel/Shazam (DC) didn't get any recognition for his time at Fawcett, but he showed up for DC's Kingdom Come #4 and Superman/Batman #4.
34. Morpheus (DC). You probably didn't expect Neil Gaiman's Sandman to make a list of Top Comic Book Brawlers, and you almost certainly didn't expect him to get there by winning a poetry slam (Sandman #4)
33. The Defenders (Marvel) were recognized for both Defenders #50 and Giant-Size Defenders #3.
32. Kitty Pryde (Marvel)'s battle with a N'garai demon (Uncanny X-Men #143) got a lot of love from this community
31. Guy Gardner (DC). Some folks get recognized just for going down with a single punch (Justice League #5)
29 (TIE). The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Shredder (Mirage) share this spot for their two epic battles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 and #10.
28. The (Golden Age) Human Torch (Timely/Marvel) earned recognition for his epic cross-over battle with the Golden Age Sub-Mariner in Marvel Mystery Comics #9.
27. Galactus (Marvel) was recognized for his involvement in both Fantastic Four #212-213 and #242-244.
26. Hawkeye (Marvel) got some love for fighting both Iron Man (Tales of Suspense #57) and The Collector (Avengers #174)
24 (TIE). Captain Marbles and Superduperman (EC) made copyright infringement law fun when they exchanged blows back in the now infamous Mad #4.
23. Dr. Octopus (Marvel) made the list for fighting both Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man #12) AND Reed Richards (Fantastic Four #267)
22. Hercules (Marvel) was recognized by a handful of members for facing off against Thor (Thor #126).
21. Superboy (DC) showed up twice in this event, both for fighting Superman (Action Comics #591) and Darkseid (Legion of Superheroes #294). Additionally, an un-licensed nod to the character got recognized for Invincible vs. Omni-Man (Invincible #12)
20: The Avengers (Marvel) made this list too many times to list!
19. The Thing (Marvel) has probably thrown down with every heavy-weight in the Marvel Universe, so it's no big surprise to see him this high on the list.
18. The Juggernaut (Marvel) was acknowledged for facing off with Spider-Man (ASM #230), Thor (#411), and even a mansion (Well, Professor Xavier's mansion...in X-Men #12).
17. Shang-Chi (Marvel). Sheesh did the Marvel's Master of Kung Fu get mentioned a lot during this event. With Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy at the creative helm, it's not hard to imagine why.
16. Captain America (Marvel). Our boy in red, white, and blue got some of the more unusual nominations during this event, fighting himself in one instance (#156), and winning without even showing up to the fight in another (Secret Wars #12).
15. Usagi Yojimbo (IDW) was recognized for fighting a former mentor (UY #1), his greatest nemesis (UY #10) and even an entire army (UY vol. 3 #10).
14. Hitler / Nazis (various). Probably the most surprising entry on this list is really here because of the sheer amount of fun that comes from watching Nazis get punched, whether in the pages of Our Army At War (#160), Combat Kelly (#9), or Lev Gleason's Daredevil (Daredevil Battles Hitler #1).
13. Wolverine (Marvel). Holy geez did Logan show up in a ton of nominations, most of them involving The Incredible Hulk (Incredible Hulk #180-181, Incredible Hulk #340, Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #1-3).
12. Daredevil (Marvel) for his battles with Namor (DD #7 and DD Annual #4), The Hulk (DD #163), and Bullseye (DD #181).
11. Iron Man (Marvel) for fighting Hawkeye (Tales of Suspense #57), Thor (Thor vol. 3 #3), The New Warriors (Iron Man #303), Justin Hammer's super army (Iron Man #127), and even The Hulk and Sub-Mariner at the same time (What If? #3)
10. Mr. Fantastic (Marvel). The cool-headed member of the FF heated up often enough to make it into the Top 10, taking on Dr. Doom (FF #200), Dr. Octopus (FF #267), and even an entire insurgent revolution (FF #21).
8 (TIE). Bullseye and Elektra (Marvel) got this high up for one epic battle virtually every Marvel fan remembers (DD #181)
7. Sub-Mariner (Marvel) sure got around to fighting just about everyone, from the original Human Torch (Marvel Mystery Comics #9) to The Hulk (Tales to Astonish #100), Daredevil (DD #7 and DD Annual #4), and Iron Man (What If? #3). Really, the only surprise here is that no one mentioned any of his battles with The Fantastic Four.
6. Dr. Doom (Marvel). The Lad from Latveria had two different battles on this list from Secret Wars alone. Add on an unforgettable battle with Luke Cage (HfH #9), and the legendary face-off with Mr. Fantastic (FF #200), and it's no wonder 'Ol Vic earns the #6 spot.
5. Spider-Man (Marvel). It's a bit surprising to see everyone's favorite wall crawler rank in the Top 5 brawlers of all time, but he came up no less than ten times during this event, most notably fighting Firelord (ASM #270) and the Green Goblin (ASM #122).
4. Superman (DC). Beyond the obvious showdowns with Lex Luthor (Batman #293) and Doomsday (Superman vol. 2 #75), Supes got some truly unusual pairings with Superboy (Action Comics #591), Captain Marvel (Kingdom Come #4), the Incredible Hulk (Superman & Spider-Man), and even Mohammad Ali (Superman vs. Mohammad Ali).
3. Batman (DC). It's staggering how many Bat-battles got nominated as part of this event, but certainly the most popular of them was Batman's takedown of Guy Gardner in Justice League #5.
2. Thor (Marvel). It was always going to come down to one of two giants, Thor earning a whopping 186 points in this event (for comparison's sake, the average character making this list earned less than one-seventh of that amount).
1. The Incredible Hulk (Marvel) dominated with 206 points, coming from fourteen different nominations, including a fight with Hulk Hogan (Marvel Comics Presents #45) and a fight with "everyone" (Incredible Hulk #139).
