So every month I flip through Previews to pick out books to hype for the store and to see what interesting stuff I might want to get for myself.

I thought I might share some of the upcoming stuf that caught my eye from this month's Previews (for books shipping in December...)

Dark Horse

-ooh Frazetta!!!!!
Death Dealer playing cards deck and a set of 4 Frazetta Warriors coasters...so I'm a sucker for Frazetta!

-Alex Maleev on Hellboy & the BPRD-new 5 issue mini written by Mignola & Arcudi

-Jerry Ordway doing a feature in Dark Horse presents with Alex deCampi; and a new Odin series with Odin wielding Mjolnir by Joe Casey & Jim Rugg

It's Darwyn Cooke variant month and I love some of the covers, especially the Teen Titans (classic line up) one

-Multiversity Thunderwolrd #1 Cameron Stewart on art looks like the Fawcett Earth is featured....Stewart's Captain Marvel looks amazing

-new deluxe edition hardcover of New Frontier solicited, this time including the Special as well as the 6 issue mini

-Showcase Blue Beetle solicited...

-one for Shaxper's delight-a trade collecting all the Stern/Swan Superman 2 pagers from Action Comics Weekly 601-641....

IDW

-another for Shax-the first issue of Star Trek/Planet of the Apes x-over mini is solicited. Looks like BOOM! is doing a Dawn of the POTA mini as well that starts in Nov as #2 is solicited. More fodder for his PotA review thread.

Sim has spent the last 2 years tracking down high quality scans of the original art and production materials and digitally remastering the art, cleaning it up, adjusting contrast so the black and white art stands out better on the page and looks less muddied, etc. There are before and after samples available in the ad, not sure if they are online any where though. It's much like an album that gets remastered by a band taking advantage of technology that was not available when it was originally made to in their view enhance the product and get it closer to what they wanted it to be but could not achieve due to technological limitations.

Just making sure it wasn't panels added, subtracted, rearranged, text changed, stuff like that. I thought it could even mean the early issues being re drawn to fit more with the style he developed later.

I may have asked this before and forgotten, but when it says something is solicited in December that means you order it in December and it comes out later right?

We order the stuff in this Octobers previews that is solicited for release in December. Orders are due last Thursday of the month usually, so the order we place at the end of October (which is this current Previews I just flipped through) will come out in December (with a few exceptions, one GN was solicited in Oct for Feb release for example). So books solicited in Oct are for Dec. Book solicited in December (which is 2 previews from now) would be for books coming out in February. Marvel, DC, and such will start releasing November solicits here in a week or so, those are books we would order in November for January release...

Always curious about mythological stuff, so Casey's Odin series sounds interesting, but will have to see and hear more.

Still following Multiversity.

Definitely want to have a look at Tom Sutton's Creepy Things Chilling Archives of Horror - what is it collecting, his Warren stuff?

Big fan of Wrightson, but The Ghoul hasn't attracted me so far, for some reason.

Like the premise behind Bitch Planet but the artwork doesn't grab me. Might give it a shot anyway, though.

Alan Moore writing Crossed sounds like an odd thing for him to do - that's the Garth Ennis zombie series, isn't it?

I remember seeing Gray Morrow's Orion advertised in Heavy Metal back in the day but not sure I ever read any of it. think I might take a chance on it, though, because I like Morrow's art so much and the idea sounds perfect for him.

As with Wrightson and The Ghoul, I like Bisley a lot but something about Tower Chronicles feels lacking. Maybe it's just the slickness of the modern printing and colouring that leaves me cold, not sure.

Dark Horse-
Grindhouse: Drive In, Bleed Out #2. I loved the first Grindhouse series; picked those up on the fly and enjoyed the. Alex de Campi's tapping into something really super fun with this series.

DC Comics-
I am a fan of Darwyn Cooke's artwork and I'm praying to all the gods represented in the world, that they put all these variant covers into a book or something.
Batgirl #37. I'm going to give the first arc a try.

IDW-
John Romita Artifcact Edition. While these are great, there's a great gluttony of these in the stores. Remember when these came out like once or twice a year? It was a treat to buy these; now they're just like a monthly comic it seems.... sort of lost its luster. It's a great product, but its just another manufactured book to sell.
Corto Maltese. Let's hope the translation was better than the one that came out a year ago.

Sunstone OGN. I enjoyed this when it was online. And Stjephan Sejic's artwork is killer. Nice.
Casanova vol 3: Avaritia. I'll get this as I enjoy Casanova.

Cavewoman: The Zombie Situation. Yeah, Budd Root's pure cheesecake but it's a fun little book.
Simpsons Comics #216. It's the Simpsons..
Abigail & the Snowman #1. Roger Langridge is a superstar and his all ages stuff is top notch.
Monsieur Jean: From Bachelor to Father HC. Dupuy & Beberain..nuff said!
Stumptown Vol 3. Rucka's Dex Pario's is back for more action!
