Just won this is the latest Lonestar auction, the Larry Elmore portfolio Swordsong Set 2, limited to 2000 copies. I really dig Elmore's stuff, but my wife is the big fan. We have a few framed pieces and Elmore art books scattered through the house form the many times we have met Larry at Origins and Gen Con, this was one we didn't have. It includes the following: -M

Went to an estate sale my wife'a aunt was running (estate sales are her "side hustle" as she owns a beauty parlor) and found some interesting stuff, some of which could fit in the blast from the past thread. I haven't owned a video game console since the original NES in the late 80s/early 90s, but I couldn't pass this lot up for a mere $30... it's an Atari 5200, the 2600 VCS adapter, a TI99 computer and a haldful of games for the Atari, including: Pole Position, Pac Man, Frogger, Warlords Ms. Pac Man, Haunted House, (and this is the one that caught my eye and tempted me) Raiders of the Lost Ark River Raid and Galaxian I really had no interest in the TI99, but it was part of the lot. I will clean it up and if it works bring it to a vintage game store here and see if I can trade it in for credit for a few more vintage games. I also found a set of 3 unopened packages of Swamp Thing puffy stickers for the grand price of a quarter for all 3... The other 2 things I bought were not comic or toy related, but cool nonetheless. They were a wood carved statuette of an African warrior and a wooden African percussion instrument... that is played using the hollowed stick onside the larger hollowed out notched wooden piece. I got both for under $5 total. It will go well with my djembe drums and Native American drums that I have. And the warrior statue will go with a small collection of carved wooden African masks and other cultural warrior statues I have ( I actually have interests outside Geek culture <gasp> -M

While I was out today I picked up two if the blind bags for Imaginext series 10, and got these 2 figures (appropriate since we re starting up playing D&D again...) an Elf Warrior (actually got 2 of these but that's alright I like the figure)... (pic staken form Action Figure Barbecue, and are not mine) and the Dragon Warrior... (and what it looks like minus accessories) The Elven twins have already inspired a pair of villains for my D&D game (Lilandro and Karsas-twin elven assassins, one left handed, one right handed) I wish I had had something like Imaginext when I was a kid, I guess the closest would have been Fisher Price Adventure people but I never had those. -M

So here's the start of my art and toy haul from the 2018 Ohio Toy & Comic Show today (comics posted in the classic comics what have you purchased lately thread)... Toy start with, I had decided to turn my blank Action #1000 cover into a jam cover with panels by lots of local artists I know doing characters from the Superman mythos spanning the breadth of Superman history. I had 3 artists do panels on it today. Started with asking my friend Adam Fields to do a Clark Kent shot, and then am going to let the rest do whatever character from the Superman mythos they want to do. Michael Watson chose Supes himself and Ren McKinzie did Power Girl... some closer looks... Clark Kent by Adam Fields. Adam does the creator-owned book Prowl and has done a couple of sets of Marvel sketch cards for Upper Deck. I have a bunch of original pieces by Adam, and wanted him to start off the book. Funnily enough, another con-goer approached Adam to do a Harley Quinn sketch on a blank cover while he was working on mine, saw how I was making it a jam cover and decided to do his Harley cover the same way. Next I approach Michael Watson, a couple of tables over from Adam, and he chose to do Superman himself... Michael is runs a publishing house focused on urban heroes of color, and I really did the Vigilance series he puts out through that imprint. He is also drawing a bonus comic that is a Mr. Rhee/Samaritan cross-over by Dirk Manning and Victor Dandridge (the current talent coordinator for artist alleys at Wizard World) that was a stretch goal achieved in the kickstarter campaign Dirk did for Tales of Mr. Rhee Vol. 4 that I pledged. Lastly, I asked Ren McKinzie to do a panel and he debated a bit between Supergirl or Power Girl but decided on Kara... Ren has done a lot of different books, and is a frequent collaborator with Victor Dandridge, but I also have books he has drawn for my friend Dustin Carson. In two weeks is the Jim & Dan's Comic and Toy Show that is a quarterly how around here, and I will be getting a few more panels done there hopefully. I also talked to some of my friends at Twilight Star Studios about doing panels on it (the back is blank too and I have sectioned off 6 panels on the back in addition to the 4 on the front, so there will be 10 panels altogether). More to come from the show... -M

So I also got prints from some of the artists who did the sketches. From Ren McKinzie I picked up the following... a Doctor Strange print... a Valkyrie print... a Hawkgirl print... and for my wife, an Asoka print... she had picked up a couple of Star Wars prints from Ren at the charity auction at Gem City Comic Con this past spring, and wanted the Asoka print as soon as she saw it. more to come from this show... -M

We got a few prints from Michael Watson as well. Amy had wanted a couple of prints based on his character form Vigilance, but Michael had sold out on those, but he is supposed to be at the Jim & Dan show in two weeks, so I will likely get them from him then. Amy did pick out three prints form Michael, and I picked out 1 to round out the Four for offer. Amy selected Okoye from the Black Panther film... Storm... and Rey from Force Awakens... and I got a Ghost Rider print... more to come from the show... -M

some other art gotten at the show, a group of classic horror themed prints by my friend Kevin Adkins from Twilight Star Studios... and from Matt Metzger, whom i met for the first time today, Amy and I got the following, a pair of prints and 6 sketch card prints... a Wonder Woman print... and a Death print... and these sketch cards which were 6/$5 and a closer look at these... Lobster and Hellboy Morpheus and the Ghost Rider and finally, a gender swapped Loki and a Rocket Raccoon... and one final art related item I picked up for Amy... a vintage Sword in the Stone coloring book from Whitman... plus we got the following toys... I picked up a pair of carded DC Direct figures (though the cards are in rough shape and I will likely free them to display: Morpheus/Sandman and Black Canary.. Amy picked me up this Q-Figure Doctor Strange... and a pair of DC heroines, a Justice League series Wonder Woman action figure and the Batgirl Rock Candy figure (Amy has been getting big into the Rock Candy figures, mostly the Harry Potter stuff but she has been branching out)... Amy also picked up pair of Star Wars...Darth Maul and Zeb form Rebels but had them out of the package before I could take pics. This is a stock pic of the Darth Maul... and a stock pic of the Zeb... That's it. The best part of the show as always is getting to see the many folks in the comic and toy community we know and catch up and hang out, and we saw lots of old friends today, and made a few new ones along the way. -M

Went to an estate sale this morning and ended up spending a whopping $27 on the following... My life loves Disney storybooks and I found these 8 Disney soundtrack lps that come with storybooks inside the record jackets... and got these two records to boot... I also found a vintage Disney Bambi coloring book for my wife and a pair of vintage Peanuts paperbacks... but the major find, the one that had me jumping with excitement was this... near complete in the box for the majestic sum of...$4. figures in good shape, the stickers show a little wear. And it is missing 3 of the 6 shooting stars, but otherwise is complete as far as I can tell... though the box is a little rough... I have windowshopped Shogun Warrior several times at toy shows, but they are always out of my price rang e(I've seen MIB goes for over $300 and loose go for in between $75-$150 over the last few years, so I was stoked to find this and at such a kickass price. -M
