As good as some of their studio albums are (like Workingman's Dead and American Beauty), the Dead was a band you really had to experience live to get why they had such a dedicated fan base. Not even the recordings really capture the magic entirely. I feel lucky that I was able to catch them five times from the late '80s through the early '90s, when most of the original line-up (including, crucially, Jerry Garcia) were still alive and well.

Yes, there are a few Deadheads here. Please let us know which cd you get and what you think of it.

I’ve been listening to a ton of old-school soul and R&B as I’ve listened along with my read of Peter Guralnick’s biography of Sam Cooke.
This morning I’m listening to “Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club.” Great live album recorded a short time after Cooke had begun to change his live act. An entirely different experience than listening to his records.

Just got through listening to Sonny Rollins with the Modern Jazz Quartet - first time in what seems like forever. I'd almost forgotten how much I love this gem of an album. The excellent first track just sets the tone for the whole thing...

Was groovin' to some slick Vic Wooten bass tones which led me back to some Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...

Lately I've been hooked on a micro-genre called "Mallsoft", instrumental music intended to evoke the rather soulless background music associated with 80's mall culture. It's a close relative to vaporwave and synthwave, and a good companion to viewing liminal space photographs.

Been listening to music more often when taking hikes in the past few weeks (as opposed to an almost exclusive audio diet of podcasts for many years running), and queued up Santana's Supernatural. Yeah, some of the songs got overplayed on the radio back in the day, but damn it's a good album. Every track's a winner starting with the opener...
