#10Fantastic Four: The Galactus Sagaby Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and others originally published in: Fantastic Four #48- 50 (1966) Fantastic Four #72-77 (1968) Silver Surfer #1 (1968) Thor #160-162, 168-169 (1969) Fantastic Four #120-123 (1972) Thor #225-228 (1974) Fantastic Four #172-175 (1976) Fantastic Four #206-213 (1979) Fantastic Four #242-262 (1982) Nominated by: brutalis, and Icctrombone (voting for "Fantastic Four #242-244, 261,262"), Paste Pot Paul (voting for "Fantastic Four 1 - 102"), shaxper (voting for "Fantastic Four: The Galactus Trilogy"), and coke & comics (voting for "Fantastic Four #39-60") brutalis says: "Where were you the day Galactus and his herald(s) appeared? From the start Kirby and Lee gave us one huge (boy do i mean huge) entrance for the World Devour coming to dinner (who invited him?) on Earth and he was so important that he uses his very own herald to announce his arrival. Sheesh, couldn't he just ring the door bell like everyone else? No matter which arrival you choose in those early days, they were all special. His 1st arrival with the Silver Surfer relearning his humanity and turning to fight his master on our behalf. Galactus in space attempting to dine upon Ego the Living Planet. His second coming as Gabriel the Air Walker the robotic replacement for Norrin Radd where the FF send ol Purple Helmet off to feed on the Negative Zone. Galactus arriving back on Earth for the BBQ with his newest herald Firelord. Galactus then decides to chow down on Counter Earth using the Asgardian Destroyer as a herald. Galactus eats the Skrull homeworld. Finale with the Trial of Galactus with Reed Richards for the Defense. Of course there are various other visitations of the big Purple Puss but they mostly pale in comparison to these adventures of the Big G. That Galactus is a force of the cosmos, a natural balance of death versus life, chaos versus order then you can look at his stories as true ongoing Saga's of the most amazingly spectacular reflections of going out to dinner on the intergalactic scale...."

I've read the Lee/Kirby issues. And they're fine. I probably like other FF storylines better. Overall Galactus just doesn't float my boat.

I think I've read the original Galactus story completely, but I've lost track of which other ones I have and haven't read. Byrne for sure. And Squirrel Girl definitely.

FF vs Galactus. Always a classic. Captures the FF at their best & why they are different from other teams.

Read: I don't think I read FF 206-213 or maybe the 1974 Thor stuff.
The original Galactus story in FF 48-50 was the second best thing in superhero comics (behind FF 51!) but there were definite diminishing returns every time Galactus showed up.

Read this as Marvel Treasury Edition # 2 and loved it as 12 year old Hondo.

FF and Galactus goes together like peanut butter and chocolate, pretzels and beer, french fries and ice cream, chicken and dumplings or any other combo you can imagine. The Fantastic Four are NOT just any old super hero team but are a true family exploring life and living it to the fullest as they dive headlong into the deep end of the cosmos's. Ever since they dared to launch themselves into space in an untested rocket they have dealt with the repercussions of that decision. Being in the forefront as Marvel's 1st family the FF and friends have stood for all that is best and wonderful about being human. The thrills and excitement as they explore new worlds and being the FIRST to experience the unknown. The FF walk in worlds that few others would dare to go to or become involved in.
Galactus isn't just another super villain to fight or have a slug fest with. We are to him as ants are to us and yet Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny manage to make Galactus hesitate in his stepping on us. They show Galactus that he is NOT the be all and end all of everything and that the tiniest life matters as part of the vast circle of life itself. They show us all that there is more to existence than simply thinking of ourselves and that we all make a difference and are of importance and matter in the grand scheme of life and the universe.
All of this in a children's comic book. That speaks to the power of imagination and creativity and daring of Jack Kirby along with Stan's help in creating characters that manage to entertain and teach us at the same time. That truly is FANTASTIC!!!

I've read the FF original trilogy in the Essential collections, really amazing though I need to see it in color now that I think about it.
The only other Galactus stories that I've read from this list are most of the Byrne FF issues. From Frankie Raye becoming Nova to Galactus consuming the Skrull home world, Byrne maintains the classic feel of the FF confronting this ominous foe, loved it.

Lee and Kirby were the Lennon and McCartney of comics, and the Galactus Saga was their Sgt Pepper.
