Here's a list of the 2018 Eisner Nominees

of these, I've only read the Hellboy one-shot, which I quite liked.



I am a bit behind on Black Hammer and Wicked & Divine (I read the latter in trade), but quite like both. Haven't read that current Hawkeye series (which I believe is cancelled along with just about every series by Marvel that got nominated except Black Panther for cover artist) or Giant Days. I read the first trade of Monstress and thought it was okay, but haven't tracked down any more to read. I shoudl give it another chance, as I was in a very non-comic mood when I read it.



I quite liked World of Wakanda and am digging King's Mister Miracle. I intend to read X-Men Grand Design once it hits unlimited and I need to check out The Flintstones. I read Extremity via Hoopla and I remember liking it, but I couldn't tell you what it was about now, so it didn't stand out with me.



Of those, I've only read the first volume of Lemire's Royal City, which I really liked. Vol. 2 is up on hoopla now and it will be one of my 10 borrows next month (I've used up all of this month's already). I want to check out the Black Bolt series (our library just got the trade) ad both Grass Kings and Redlands are by creators whose work I enjoyed so bear checking out. Skroce's more recent stuff has interested me far more than his stuff for Marvel back int he day, so I might check it out if I get the chance.

I've mentioned Monstress already, but Spinning was phenomenal. It was on a couple of best of year lists for last year, so I checked it out. Great read. The others I am not familiar with.



I read the DC/Looney Toons trade, so have read (and enjoyed) the Batman/Elmer Fudd special though it was not my favorite of them. Haven't read the others.



I generally like anthologies but haven't read any of these.



Already mentioned Spinning, the only of these I have read. The Best We Could Do has been on my radar since the best of lists for 2017, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I think I want to check out the Lennon book if the chance presents itself.



My Favorite Thing is Monsters is phenomenal. I haven't checked out any of the others.



Haven't seen any of these, though some are on my radar.



I really want to check out the Beowulf and Lovecraft adaptations, but haven't yet.



not familiar with any of these, but my knowledge of non-US comics is woefully inadequate at best. I know some of the classics, but that's about it.



I'd really like to get the Sky Masters and the Star Wars volumes but haven't yet.




I picked up the first volume of Akira form Kodansha last year, but I am not sure if it is the 35th Anniversary Edition or not. The Eisner volume is on my radar for sure.



I've read stuff from all of these nominees (just not always the stuff they were nominated for here). All do solid work but Lemire and Kindt are my particular favorites of the group, at least their creator-owned stuff. Descender is probably in my top 3 books currently being published.



Ferris is the only one of this group I have read, and I really dug it. Ferris has a unique style and a distinctive voice.



Gianni is a particular favorite of mine among this group. Gerads has a very distinctive look and I admire his use of the none panel grid in Mister Miracle.




Of these, I've only sampled Takeda's stuff.



Nice group of nominees. I am glad to see Stelfreeze get some recognition.



again good group of nominees. I am surprised that Jordie Bellaire is not included-she's usually a staple in this category and I love her stuff.



I am not familiar with Arsenault's work, but well deserved nomination for the rest. I was just thinking about Cowles lettering when I recently read Bitch Planet, and Sakai and Workman are legends. The lettering on My Favorite Thing is Monsters is so much a part of the flavor of the book and setting the tone for its thematic content, I am glad Ferris was recognized and think she should win.

the design of Ferris' book is incredible (each page looks like a notebook page with pen drawings on it as Ferris did it all on notebook paper in ball point pen.

Biggest surprise. Saga is nowhere to be found. BKV, Staples and the book itself have dominated The Eisners (and most other awards) nominations since it launched in 2012. It's good to see other folks get some recognition.
