Here's a group shot of the writer's involved... L-R Kat Howard (Books of Magic), Gaiman, Nalo Hopkinson (House of Whispers), Si Spurrier (the Dreaming), Dan Watters (Lucifer)... just to make you feel old. Watters was born 2 years after Sandman debuted. -M

I'm not sure I love the idea of a Tim Hunter reboot, but we'll see how it goes

DC released the names of the artists doing each of these books and provided preview art for each... Sandman Universe artists revealedThe Dreaming written by Si Spurrier with art by Bilquis Evely (who is also doing the art on the one-shot launching it all) I just have to say, this looks awesome. -M

BOOKS OF MAGIC—written by Kat Howard with art by Tom Fowler I had some trepidation about the reboot of Tim Hunter, but I read Kat Howard's debut novel earlier this year and I adored it, so now I am very much looking forward to this. And the art in that first preview panel... -M

I've never been big into Gaiman's Sandman or the universe that houses it (as I've said before, Gaiman's prose can more often than not be a little too sweet and flowery for me), but I would be interested in seeing a Books Of Magic revival. Need something to scratch that "Harry Potter" itch, yah know?

Those of you interested inthis who still shop at an lcs, the Sandman Special is now available for preorder (the issue of Previews for August books drops next week but the online ordering suite has the August solicits available now). There are several order as you want variants for this special, so if you want a specific cover you can let your retailer know. I preordered 2 copies today, the Dave McKean variant cover and the blank variant I will commission a sketch on at a con this autumn. I like the Jae Lee main cover, but it just doesn't feel like a Sandman book without a cover by Dave McKean, so that;s the one I am getting.

I haven't read enough Sandman to be really into this but I like they way they're handling this project: having the original creator as a kind of "show-runner", supervising the other writers - that's the way it should be done, IMO, if the original creator is willing and able to do it, of course.

I'm not sure about rebooting Tim Hunter. Whether it appeals to me or not will depend a lot on how close it is to the original. In particular, Tim's relationship with Molly was a vital part of the original series, but will she even exist now?
