That's great. I hope they use him.

Over the years, and since his departure, BWS did several covers for reprints and some promo art/pinups, so we have a glimpse how older Conan looks alike in his rendering: Barry's Conan is more like... flamboyant-peacocking savage, while Neal's and Buscema's more of a Neanderthal type haha There is one thing that Barry was using prominently (and very few artists picked up latter on) - Clothing, the armory and architecture are out of this World. I don't mean "Out of this World" as "drawn that good", although often it is, I mean - literally out of this World. For example some random sword Conan is using: Blade shape is taken from 16th century European swords, fuller from ancient Japanese swords, guard maybe Egyptian style, grip and pommel Roman style, peen block he created on the spot. When you look at the big picture with several elements like that it looks alien yet familiar. That mishmash blends really well with Hyborean Age. It ain't the middle-age or any other known age. This one is from back in a day:

This is BWS reply to returning to either Archer and Armstrong or Conan.
''When pigs fly to the Moon and return home safely.'"

I remember that BWS wrote and drew a Conan-Rune crossover in the late 1990s. I'd love to see that back in print.

Doubtful because while Rune is owned by Marvel , They would have to pay BWS money from the profits. That's why all of the Ultraverse characters have been buried.

I suspect a Jason Aaron written Conan would be alot like the young Thor bits he does.. which would be a good thing.
I also wouldn't mind them doing something different.. maybe a what if series where Belit doesn't die, or one where instead of wandering Conan becomes King of Cimmeria and attacks the rest of the civilized world.

I surmise it was early 2000's , after he got burned with the Ultraverse sale.

I found this image. It appears that it was a one shot. Rune also appeared In the Conan book twice (#4 and #5.)

Generally, I’ll always pick up any new Conan book.
This one should be no exception. Although, I hope Jason Aaron gets a shot at it.

I found this image. It appears that it was a one shot. Rune also appeared In the Conan book twice (#4 and #5.) Smith was dismayed by the modifications done to his colour art on that one. Dismayed? Nay; aghast! Furious! Some genius at the time thought it would be cool to add a few photoshop effects to Smith’s subtle palette. The printing quality was also not particularly impressive. That’s pretty sad... When a classic creator returns to the character that made him famous, one should try not to mess things up. (The story itself was kind of ordinary, though. In fact, I thought the second Conan vs Rune match in the pages of Conan the savage was more interesting. It was a Chuck Dixon/Enrique Alcatena story).

Speaking of Smith... If he wants quick money, I would be delighted to pay big bucks for a new printing of his Robert E. Howard portfolio.
Pretty pretty please!

If Aaron is handed the keys to Conan, it would immediately become my most anticipated title.
Might be my favorite modern writer in the comics realm. Southern Bastards (PLEASE release new issues on a more consistent basis), Scalped, his PunisherMAX run post-Ennis...all fantastic.
I liked the recent Cullen Bunn run on Conan the Slayer for what it was, but I’d love to see a traditional return to form.

From the little I've seen of his stuff, Aaron doesn't seem like a good choice for a sword and sorcery comic to me. Specifically, it's the sorcery part that bothers me, because my impression is that he has a very clunky, mechanical, unimaginative take on that kind of thing. Witness his Thor, in which he seems to view the Asgardians and other gods as a kind of political elite, undeserving aristocrats oppressing the common people (mortals) of the MU; and his Doctor Strange is a wise-cracking, axe-wielding guy whose struggles against awe-inspiring supernatural entities feel exactly the same as Spider-Man fighting Dr. Octopus, or whatever.
Not that I think he'd be so stupid as to write Conan like that, but these examples have left me with a negative feeling for his work.

Marvel won't be the only publisher producing Conan comics in 2018 and 2019. French publisher Glenat (who produced the brilliant Elric adaptations later put out in English translation by Titan) is producing a serie sof adaptations of the Howard Conan stories for the French market over the next few years. Since French copyrights last 70 years after the death of the creator, the Conan material as been in the public domain in France since 2006, so they can publish adaptations regardless of licensing deals with Dark Horse, Marvel or whomever by Paradox as their copyrights only apply to the US where the Sonny Bono legislation extended the copyrights here. They can't publish their books in the US (so don't expect an English translation to be available in the American market anytime soon or ever). The first being adapted is Black Colossus... I may have to prevail on some folks with access to the French editions to get these. -M
