I know I have a thread in the Classic board, thought (if ok) would start one in the Modern comics board to keep all informed with whats going on now (: Today I picked up Prog #2063Has Judge Dredd: Echoes, part 3. Been enjoying this so far. Seeing Dredd out the Mega-City is always fun, and when old enemies are in the story. Also Bad Company: Terrorists, part 3. This returning was teased about 6 months ago and was looking forward to it since. Really love the characters and artwork is really fitting, so far it been fun to read. Has the same dark humour as story from couple years ago and in original run. {Spoiler?} Mac is back Brass Sun: Engine Summer, part 3. Sci-Fi meets Steampunk. Liked this at first but think need to read back over the old stories to remind myself of the story. Seems like there has been too many characters so been hard to follow with the long breaks between. Savage and ABC Warriors also on part 3 of the current stories but honestly not enjoying them much. The art is kinda dull and messy in parts, makes it hard to understand what is going on.

Seems like Prog 2061 is a good starting point for anyone looking to get onboard. Or are they still doing the annuals at the start of each year?

No annuals, don't think they done them for long number of years. but yeah Prog 2061 is good place, it was the Christmas issue so it was longer and took over into January, so you get the start of each above I mentioned and some others. Should be cheaper now from the 2000ad shop now since it couple issues old (:

Got Prog #2064 today Still enjoying Dredd and Bad Company. Though this is another week the contents has spilled over to the back page so the back page is the last page of the comic rather then an ad for a graphic novel or something. I don't hate that, better then story getting shortened, it just looks a bit odd and makes me more paranoid of avoiding scratch marks lol also for what it worth as no idea who reads this comic much, might be spoilers in this thread. Its out weekly so to have a discussion on it and avoid them would be hard.

Things we can learn from Prog: #2066Dredd could have a side job as a sea-worm tamer: Mac's nice side isn't gone, still wouldn't want to mess with him though: From reading the 2000AD forums seems opinion is devided with current run of stories, either loving it or hating it. Personally im loving it. Main issue seems to be those upset Dredd is taking more beatings lately and not much in the Mega-City, but I like seeing him in other settings. Dredd has been an arse-kicker but never a superhero, in fact he very much always been anti-vigerlante. It be wrong to each issue have him putting world to right. Bad Company, seems its the art people are unsure of. It is much brighter and bolder, contrast to original run that was black and white, then with muted colour, until the reboot which was black and white again. I think it very fitting though. Despite the story dealing with horror of war themes, lies, PTSD and such, Bad Company are meant to have a mad side, I think the bold colour fits this perfectly showing that and maybe war is crazy a lot of the time. Not read Brass Sun, Savage or ABC Warriors yet. I start with my favourites... Not really sure what is going on with Brass Sun either. it started so well but still feel there is too many characters to care about what happens to them. Art is beautiful though. @ daveo , you get the Prog weekly? be nice to have another Dredd fan to talk with

Prog #2067Thought would give some time to Brass Sun. Still not enjoying the story so much, think it do better in the magazine where can have more pages dedicated to it. But the art is great, my photos don't really do them justice. Bad Company splash I thought was good, like the real photography mixed in. ABC Warriors had really cool art of Blackblood. Will try and get pic of him here soon. I took these yesterday but for some reason they were not uploading properly so didn't photo it. Been getting into the story more now, just seemed it was slow to get going. But all the ABC Warriors are turning on each other so I guess it would take a few Progs to show that.

Prog #2068
The Dredd story ended this issue. I enjoyed it even if the story was fairly simply. Im guessing it is setting up something for later on with Sovs being back in the story, and them still wanting to put Dredd on trial for past events. But he not back in the Meg yet so maybe there is more drama to come Thought would share more Brass Sun art. Feel its better when they keep things simple. Shows great artist/illustrator skill that can progress a story with little to no words. Im tempted to buy the trade hardback, I feel like would enjoy the story more if I re-read it in one go. Or I just got to be less lazy and search through my collection to find all the Progs it appeared in.

Prog #2069A new Dredd story starts today. The others are meant to be finishing soon, so a 'Jumping on' issue will be coming up. 21 March if anyone is interested (: Anyway going to try and stick to saying out one story see if it makes my rambling any better lol. New Dredd story is Live Evil, Dave Taylor doing art this time Dredd is back in the Meg, it seems this might be a spookier story so Taylor art will fit it perfectly, to me it has a slightly etherial quality. Last art was very graphic at least so this is a nice change. It one thing I love about 2000 AD, the art is so varied and so is the artist take on the characters. Dredd looks more his age in this story. It sees a research ship, on auto- pilot crash down, with all logs deleted and members on board brutally murdered while in cyro-sleep (not by turning life support off though which Dredd sees as strange). While it seems they have a killer in one of the crew members on board, who they can see was involved in a fight with an other, they don't know why it happened. Other Psi judges are not picking up on anything, so Dredd brings in Psi and Exorcist Judge Lamia, though she wenta bit crazy under the pressure of seeing all the dead people after Chaos Day events. But Dredd seems to want to take advantage of that, thinking if anyone will sense any kind of residual presence on board,or able to talk to the dead, she will.. for an intro I think its pretty good, nothing overly special but its got time to build.

Prog #2070 - cool cover this week. Live Evil part 2Anyway, Dredd is being his usual unsympathetic self as Lamia explains how she sees dead people everywhere. I really like the muted colours and faded art here, really does look ghostly. The story seems to be moving on pretty quick now so I don't know if there will be another before the jumping on Prog. Setting changes from Dredd/Lamia to a evidence bay in the Grand Hall, where Dr Morell snaps the neck of a tech and is found by Judge Lola. Dr Morell, who was leading the research ship that crashed down, and who despite being dead on finding the ship, has seemed to come back to life, looking for something, and still did not want to die after having a whole blasted into her head. An incendiary shot did finish her off but it means any obvious answers are also lost unless Lamia can find what the Dr was apparently looking for and seemingly willing to kill for.

Prog #2071Another cool cover but then I love Bad Company Things have gotten weird in this prog, as they sometimes do in the Meg. I don't mind this, the old stories like from 80s could get really bizarre. I like how the stories can swing between both but remain believable. So, apparently the unexplained deaths are due to a renegade group of aliens who refuse to die and steal the bodies of others. They were got out and go on steal the bodies of the research ship explorers who disturbed there prison. In order to try and stop them, the alien who was meant to be gurding them had to kill the crew but one still escaped. Now they seemingly taken over the body of a judge and is loose in the Meg.
So yeah weird but I'm enjoying the story Being that Dredd is big fat 0 on any psi scale he is very reliant on another to help him, don't see that much. sorry for any typo in this, have a cat sleeping on my typing arm

Prog #2072Live Evil finishes this Prog. A bit predictable story I think though I still enjoyed it. Its nice to see Dredd occasionally become more a background character. He seems maybe uncomfortable in some parts since he can't control much of what is going on. Can still take on a horde of zombie like judges though, most of which are going to wonder why they have broken noses when they wake up Little things like that make me grin when reading.
Anyway, it sees the aline character and Judge Lola sacrifice herself to save her fellow judges, though it doesn't seem like have seen the last of Lola or Exo Judge Lamia. She seems a interesting character too, be great if more is written with her explaining her back story. Next Prog is the jumping on one and is longer then standard so should be good. Has new Dredd story and one for Judge Anderson starting so might focus on that, see which gets my attention more, as well as Strontium Dog with one my fav Carlos Ezquerra on art so might focus on that story. Should be worth the extra money

Prog #2073This is the jumping on issue, so it means its a bit more expensive but has more stories and the cover pages are on thicker paper, I guess to make it more appealing? Not sure lol. Anyway, starts off with really awesome new Dredd story: Fit For PurposeSince I don't know how familiar any here are with the ranks and roles of Judges in the Dredd universe will explain. SJS (Special Judicial Squad) are basically the judges that judge the judges . Often quiet harshly. There role is to investigate rumours of corruption, bad conduct or crime in by Mega-City Judges. It sees the return of SJS Judge Pin (prog she featured in below). Pin was part of a short two prog story last year which saw her take her role a bit too extremely... By taking the law in her own hands and murdering those she saw as falling below standards regadless of if they had actually done anything wrong. Dredd was shown to be on her radar but deemed worthy to carry the badge. This other lot, not so much... Back to the current prog, and Pin has decided another is not living up to standard, this time SJS Judge Gerhart, someone who has a lot of history with Dredd. She is calling on Dredd to give his evidence on if Gerhart is still capable of wearing his badge. For someone just getting into 2000ad and the Dredd world, I think this is a great start. It shows the different roles in MC-1, with the judges including Dredd attending an acid attack when he is called on by the SJS, and a clear intro story with good/bad characters that they might be used to in other comics. For those used to reading 2000ad, we can see what Pin is getting up to now. Anyone thinking they might give this Prog a try? For sure worth it. Will try and do another review later or tomorrow. Lots of cool stories this Prog.
