Meanwhile, here in Zagreb we're freezing our butts off; it's actually been a pretty mild winter until now (although a tons of snow got dumped on us last week), but over the weekend some friggin' evil weather front from Siberia moved in now it's -10C or lower during the day (i.e., low teens Fahrenheit or colder) and it's going to stay that way, or get colder, for the next week or so. Still, I guess it's better than being in northern Europe, where they're getting the worst of this. And tied to Roquefort Raider's point, this is kind of off-kilter. Usually we have our deep freezes here sometime from late November to early January, while late February and early March tend to be more mild. Now it's all backward.

We too had a mild winter until last week. The snowdrops started blooming in late January, followed closely by the hellebores, daphne, heather and bergenia, and the crocuses came up in mid-February. Now the narcissus and daffodils are opening up and the hydrangeas have little green tufts at the end of each branch.
Last week we suddenly had nights in the 20s (Fahrenheit) and afternoon highs in the 30s. Not sure if any of the plants were damaged. This week the forecasts call for lows in the mid-30s and highs in the upper 40s. I can live with that.

It's been pretty chilly here in England of late, due to cold weather blowing in from Siberia last week and a polar vortex (whatever that is) this week. It's been zero or a degree or two below at night for a few weeks now, but tonight it's dipped down to -5°C outside, which is 23°F (it's -6 with the windchill). Brrrr....

I thought you guys up north were getting the worst of this Siberian weather demon's fury. Man, the past few nights it's been dipping to almost -20°C, and that's without factoring in the windchill - and it's been friggin' windy as hell.

I'm in South East England, just outside London. They've got it much worse in northern England and Scotland. -20°C is very cold. The coldest it's gotten down to in my town during the last decade was -9°C about 5 years ago.

Croatia, Zagreb to be precise. Like I said in my comment above, we've had cold snaps similar to this before, but usually in Dec./Jan. Since I've been living here (i.e., since the early '90s), I never remember it being this damn cold in late February or early March. Temps are expected to go up a bit by this weekend, though - oh, man, I hope so...

Nor'easter hit Massachusetts very hard. Heavy rain, three high tides during the storm, winds reached 93 here. In our particular area we were spared little more than trees down and a 24-hour power outage, but on the South Shore and the Outer Cape, it remains a nightmare: flooding, wind damage, homes in the water, terrible beach erosion.
Looks like another one coming in the middle of the week, this time with snow.
We're paying the price for a mild February.

All this week supposed to be a nice drying out spell of weather here in Phoenix. Temperatures in the high 77-78 and maybe over 80 by Thursday/Friday and 84-85 though middle of next week if it lasts.

Prince Hal ... 93 Mph Winds ... that's a Hurricane! Yeas, indeed, a smaller one, thank the gods. That was the peak, too. Generally the winds were down in the 60s.

That's not weather, it's a spa. The New England Calvinist in me hopes that you did something to deserve it.

Spa in March/April which quickly becomes a sweltering hot tub in May/June and then with July through September it is a furnace blasting Hell's exhaust across the face of Arizona and melting most everything in sight. Thank God for Air Conditioning for those 3 long months.

It can be argued that air conditioning was an important proximate cause of Reagan's election and the concurrent resurrection of the conservative movement.

Here in central Florida it's a relatively cool high of 68° (F) today and tomorrow, before it warms back up into the 70's this weekend. It's been a warmer than usual winter, though. We had something like 25 days in a row with a high of 80+ degrees, plus it got to about 90° once or twice. This doesn't bode well for the summer! It's also, for the most part, it's been a dry summer as well, which is nice.
