This past Sunday, Sept. 29, was the first time we've turned on the furnace since mid-May. Yesterday our little cold snap ended, and today is the first day since Sunday that we haven't turned on the furnace.

This past Sunday, Sept. 29, was the first time we've turned on the furnace since mid-May. Yesterday our little cold snap ended, and today is the first day since Sunday that we haven't turned on the furnace. We were quite the opposite, as I had to turn on the AC for the first time in a while this week. The temps in Pittsburgh were in the upper 80s the past three days and were approaching the daily records each of them. Tomorrow, however, will be a high of 62 and a low of 39. Much better.

Tonight I put the covers on the outdoor faucets. That means it is now officially winter here in the Willamette Valley. Tonight and for the next three nights, temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-20s overnight, with afternoon highs near 40.

About 5 degrees (celcius) in 4 in the afternoon. We might get some snow in a couple of weeks.

This week at my house, it started snowing on Sunday at 4pm - and didn't stop until 2 pm on Tuesday. 46 straight hours! It was a heavy, wet snow, so we ended up with about 14 or 15 packed inches. That's enough for me, when does spring start again?

Pittsburgh is on a little warming trend right now, with high temps expected to be in the 40s for much of the next week. Couple that with minimal daily chances of precipitation and we will not be having a white Christmas in Western PA this year.

Unseasonably warm here in Detroit as well - sunny, mid-fifties.

Next 24 hours is going to be a very breezy day and I'm a bit nervous about the wind gusts is going to be and local weather forecast is issuing a wind advisory and I hope that this period will pass on me.

Worrying still about people I know in SE Australia, some I've not heard from in a long while now. Absolutely terrifying imagery. Here we are getting soaked on the west coast of North America and they are bone dry and on fire. One friend near Melbourne I'm sure has lost his home, hopefully among the thousands evacuated
