I might use his run as a jumping on point to buy Superman again. Bendis has never disappointed me. You should check out the current run too, the Superman family is fantastic.

Ha, I have been reading it in MU, It's okay. I'm not in love with the Riri character or Doom as a good guy. He did really good work on the Avengers and DD series.

I also understand that everything has been done with these 50 year old characters and they have to do different things with them even if you hate it.

Different is fine if it's good...adding random 'real' parents was just dumb change for changes sake. I mean, if they were going to do something with Arno, fine. Or even his mom, but she's just a wallpaper character. He basically just made a fundamental change to a character that will most likely be ignored by everyone else for... reasons.
I mean Jane Thor has been great (though it is a bit of change for changes sake there, too... the same stories could feature the Odinson without missing a beat).

I'm not a fan of Bendis' Marvel work, but I do make it a point to listen to his Word Balloon appearances since he's a very interesting guest. Having listened to the most recent one, he made a few vague references to people at Marvel (currently) who are not his friends. Any idea who he's talking about?

Bendis was a guest on the podcast Word Balloon with John Siuntres and discusses leaving Marvel, going to DC, upcoming plans etc. It runs about 2 1/2 hours and I am only part way through it so far. -M I just finished the Jeff Lemire episode and have that one up next. Even though I haven’t read much of his recent output, I’ve always enjoyed the Bendis interviews on Word Balloon. I finished listening to the marathon 2 hour episode and have to say I am really excited to see what he does at DC.

And now my "worries" about major changes in the Superman titles were revived with the announcement that Supergirl & Super Sons are canceled in May.

That's a very cool spread, but it makes me think this mini is going to be a reboot, which stinks, as the Superbooks have been the best thing about DC's last reboot.

I just don't want to read anything like this from him:
Clark: "Lois"
Lois:"Clark?"
Clark: "Where's Jon?"
Lois: "Jon?"
Clark: "I thought he was asleep in his room."
Lois: "He was in his room the last time I saw him."
Clark: "He's not there now."
Lois: "He's not?"
Clark: "No."
Lois: "Are you sure?"
Clark: "Yes. I just looked."
Pause
Clark: " I just checked again with my x-ray vision."
Lois: "Maybe he sneaked out to meet up with Damian."
Clark: "Damian?"
Lois: "Oh Clark, you know how badly he wants to join his Titans team."
Clark: "The Teen Titans?"
Lois: "Yes, not that other Titans team."
Clark: "Well I would hope not. He's too young for them."
Lois: "But he's around the same age as Damian."
Clark: "No, I meant he's too young for the other...oh never mind. I'm going to go look for him."
Lois: "Okay, but please be careful."
Clark: "I will sweetheart."
Lois: "And don't forget to put on your old red underpants. We are having a soft reboot again."
Clark: "Thank you dear."

I suspect this means his creator owned work will end up (back) at Image. Apparently DC will now publish (via new imprints) his created/owned titles. Powers, Scarlet/Jinx and one-shots. In fact, that's the gist of it (him writing for some of their standard titles is a sideshow). Just a wild guess: DC wants to expand Jinx-Universe. So they'll have Gaiman-Universe, Bendis-Universe and their standard DC line. I am reading now Powers from the start, it's quite good. Oeming is just a perfect artist for Bendis. You can tell they are in it 100%, with their hearts and minds. Attention to detail is astounding.

You can tell they are in it 100%, with their hearts and minds. Attention to detail is astounding. DC has several imprints outside the main DCU, most curated by a big name creator who oversees it. Young Animal by Gerard Way, Wildstorm by Warren Ellis, Sandman by Gaiman, whatever Bendis' line will be called plus Jinxworld which will be a separate thing from his curated imprint, Vertigo is still around, and Ink and Zoom have been announced and something currently called Black Label has been leaked and looks to be officially announced at South by Southwest in a few weeks but it is a mature reader line featuring the mainline DCU characters-rumored first titles include Superman Year One by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr., Wonder Woman titles by Greg Rucka and Kelly Sue DeConnick and Batman titles by Snyder/Capullo and another with Lee Bejermo attached. Then there are the Hanna-Barbera titles and the creator participation new Age of DC Heroes titles. They are doing a lot to diversify their line to find audiences outside the Wednesday warrior market of the direct market. The fact DC offered a true partnership with his Jinxworld stuff and will market it as part of their own line rather than as an adjunct with little to no marketing as Marvel did with Icon was a big selling point for Bendis. DC is much better at keeping trades in print than Marvel (just ask Alan Moore). But all in all, I haven't seen DC do this much to reach out to audiences since the DC Renaissance of the mid-80s under Jeanette Khan and Dick Giordano. Personally I am much more interested in any and all of these other lines than I am in the main DCU line which mostly seem to recycle the same ole same ole year after year no matter how it is branded, but even in that line they are doing a few interesting things here and there. But it seems the bulk of the vocal Wednesday Warrior crowd is non-plussed at best or hostile at worst to everything but the main DCU line (so it's probably a good thing that most of those lines and books are targetted at audiences outside that dying breed of a crowd). -M edit to add: Here's the full slate of titles expected to start the line according to an article in the Hollywood Reporter... Superman: Year One by Frank Miller & John Romita Jr Batman: Damned by Brian Azzarello & Lee Bermejo Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons by Kelly Sue DeConnick & Phil Jimenez The Other History of the DC Universe by John Ridley Batman: Last Knight on Earth by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo Wonder Woman: Diana’s Daughter by Greg Rucka the format and schedule dictated by its creators.

So that's what... 1 comic ever 12-15 months, or is he going to go mad and get 2 issues out in the same year. I loved his Powers, but it's been utter crap ever since he got interested in the (absolutely terrible) TV version, so that's about the last 5 years, and approximately 6-8 issues.

Right, that's the thing. Usually with deals such as this (not related with comics in particular), new owner/partner (in this case DC) sees something that no-one else does (or they think they do). (Marvel is perfectly capable of doing 6-8 issues of creator-owned comics in 5 years (or whatever). Hell if it sells - they'll do it 5x a day). DC apparently wants to do a "universe thing" so there will be a small group of dedicated writers/artists and they'll write/draw in the same vain as creator (in this case Bendis) and perhaps under his close guidance. The stories take place in say Jinx/Scarlet universe. As a reader I am not particularly trilled about it. As a business decision it makes sense, they are hedging their bets, diversifying portfolio so to speak.
