Beginning with issue #288, Corben will start a new serial called Murky World which will run in Heavy Metal through 2020. I've been rather disappointed with the material appearing since Morrison took over as the figurehead EIC of HM, but Corben might persuade me to re-up my subscription when it's up for renewal. Bleeding Cool has a preview of the first 3 pages of the serial in their article about it. -M

Nice
Recently read his new horror anthology series ‘Shadows on the Grave’ and it was excellent. Wish it lasted longer.
Have always been a huge fan. Next to Wrightson, I may even consider him the best horror artist in the comics realm.

I'm glad to see Corben continuing Murky World, I loved the strip he did a while back for Dark Horse and it always felt like a prelude to a longer story.

Great news. I hadn't heard about Murky World before, I'll have to see if I can find a copy of that Dark Horse issue - it was just the one issue, is that right? That's what came up when I searched for it.

That's what came up when I searched for it. It was originally published in I think three parts in Dark Horse Presents, but yeah they collected it into a one shot afterwards. It's a fun barbarian kind of story, kind of in the vein of Den so if you liked that you'll enjoy Murky World.

Yeah, since it's a new story featuring the character from the famous Frazetta painting, I would have thought a new cover with that character might have been the way to go. But looking at the variants, I might order this one anyway, although the one with the shark doesn't look bad.
I had a vague idea that there had been a few comics based on the painting already but looking up "Death Dealer" on wiki, I see there's been a lot more stuff than I realised - even a series of novels in the 80s. Anyone tried those? I wonder if the new HM story is related to any of these previous things or if it's a brand-new character inspired by the same painting.

Anyone tried those? I wonder if the new HM story is related to any of these previous things or if it's a brand-new character inspired by the same painting. I have the novels by Silke but haven't gotten around to reading them. The Veortik Death Dealer series (published by Glenn Danzig) can be hard to find and sometimes pricey ($10-$15 per issue). I happened upon 1 issue of it before I moved out to Ohio but haven't seen another in the wild since. Lonestar has them, but I haven't broken down and ordered them from there yet. I have the first few issues of the Image series, but I dropped out of comics while it was coming out and have never seen the last few issues in the wild to finish it. They seem to be the kind of books dealers don't bother to bring to shows because they won't sell to fans of capes. I keep looking though. I'm a couple of issues behind on HM (a combo of not liking a lot of the content under Morrison and my comic room in disarray int he midst of a remodel that got interrupted by my surgery and not finished yet) but I hope to get to the new issues soon, and if you haven;t gotten an answer by then I will let you know. -M

I have one issue of the Verotik series--very nice Frazetta-esque art by Arthur Suydam, not sure about the story...
