Which Adams? Because Neal Adams hasn't done anything note-worthy, much less readable in decades. The only person you mentioned I'd even consider putting on that list over any of the people there is Alex Ross. And I don't even like his work. Perez did JLA/Avengers, and Busiek's Avengers run... he did some stuff with Waid at DC, and has a creator owned series going now, which I didn't like but is pretty . I had in my head Neal Adams had done 90s stuff.. that was clearly incorrect. Byrne's done plenty... Wonder Woman... the retro stuff (X-Men Hidden Years, and Spider-Man Chapter One).. Next Men... his more recent indy minis, etc. Some of the people on that list I had to look up to even see what the did, and a few are there mostly just for one series. If you want to talk about older talents that might deserve consideration both Joe Kubert and Will Eisner's work from 1993 until their deaths blow away Byrne or Perez.

I would agree with that.
While Byrne and Perez still turned in solid work, both Eisner and Kubert got better with age IMO.
Their later stuff is the stuff I like the best.

Will Eisner Steve Rude Jose Luis Garcia Lopez C.C. Beck Sheldon Moldoff John Romita Sr. Bill Ward Murphy Anderson Ramona Fradon Carmine Infantino Jim Sterkanko Wally Wood Dave Cockrum
and, there are others too ... Jack Kirby, Ross Andru, and many worthy candidates too.

Not that they are not good or great artists, but they are not really artists whose work is the greatest produced in the last 25 years. That's like saying George Washington was the best president of the 20th century. Great president, not of the 20th century. -M

@mrp ... Sorry about that and I didn't pay attention to it and the problem is that I'm not a fan of Modern Comics and that's threw you a curveball on the list that I posted earlier.

As for the series list, how is Sandman not on that list?? In the fine print, it reads: series that debuted from 1992 onward. Since Sandman started in 1989, it's exempt. Ah, got my dates mixed up then. Then how about League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? Anything is preferably to Bendis' Daredevil run.

Maybe they should have restricted it to artists whose first professional work was published not more than 25 years ago. Otherwise it's a bit ambiguous who qualifies for consideration.

Yeah, even though Byrne is one of my favorite artists, his work took a noticeable dive sometime around 1991. His last really solid work IMHO was his excellent Batman/Superman Elseworlds one-shot. If this were to stretch back to 35 years, he'd have to be on the list given how great/influential he was on FF and X-Men and how innovative he was on stuff like Alpha Flight (for mainstream comics).

I'm up to 1996 now poring over issues.
Occasionally I see some Byrne but it's not even in the same class.
Not bad but fairly pedestrian IMO.

I was looking at a digital issue of Babe recently and noticed how sparse and loose the pencils looked. His 80's work, even when he inked himself like he always does nowadays, was much crisper and tighter.

It's like he's been coasting on his previous reputation and just phoning it in. It's not that I don't like his later work, it just pales to what made him famous.

I would have thought JH Williams would be on there - he seems to be almost universally admired.

Again, as I said in another thread on these lists, these are lists for pop culture fans who like comics, not for comics fans, and I wonder, as good as JH Willimas III is, how much of his work has resounded in the greater pop culture to make his get noticed by the staff of SyFy Wire who are compiling these lists? -M
