I find Lemire's Valiant stuff I have read (mostly The Valiant) to be a step above his DC mainstream DC stuff (of which I think Green Arrow was the best), but quite up to the level of his creator owned stuff. Especially when he is doing the art too. Trillium was pure brilliance, and Descender (with art by Dustin Nguyen) is probably my favorite book coming out right now. Sweet Tooth has been amazing so far, and Black Hammer (at least what I have read of it as I am 4 months behind) is excellent as well. I need to track down Essex County, Underwater Welder and some of his other creator-owned stuff as well, but I feel no real need to track down more of his Valiant stuff (or his current Marvel stuff for that matter). I just feel he's much better playing in his own sandbox than playing with someone else's toys (same with Matt Kindt whose Mind MGMT is freaking brilliant). That's why Lemire is in the second group for me and not the first.

I will always check out anything with Batman, Hawkman and Green Lantern. Generally though, I'm a sucker of DC Comics period.
Definitely Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, although that extends across all mediums. I suppose I would also add Conan to my list although I've not read nearly enough comics/novels about him the last few years.
The Shadow and Doc Savage have become some favorites more recently. I've dipped my feet into multiple eras of the characters but they're still too new for me to truly say I've followed them from place to place.

And not a single hero, but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well.

I wanted to say none, but I'll always give a new Spirou creative team a shot (on the upside, the experimental ones are nearly always done-in-one's.) and on the main series they tend to be very conservative with new creative teams.

None. I never buy based purely on character. I have to at least be familiar with the writer's other work or have heard/read good things about the book. Comics-wise, there's not much worse than a great character written poorly.

None, especially the way they are written nowadays.
I am more interested in the creative teams and may "follow" them to a certain extent.

Captain America Moon Knight Doctor Strange Tony Stark (I didn't say Iron Man, because I did not buy either of the recent series featuring Riri or Victor von Doom in the armor, because neither of them is Iron Man. That said, while I did start Superior Iron Man, which did have Tony as the titular star, I dropped it after issue #4 because it was hot garbage, so I may give something an initial chance but I am by no means not discerning in my purchases.)

That's really what i am talking about. I will give certain characters, writers and artists a try but if they don't capture my interest within a few issues then i am all about dropping it. Take for instance my beloved team Avengers and Legion of Superheroes. Haven't read more than an issue here and there for over 5 years now which truly saddens me. Gave up X-Men a loooong time ago and tried the latest incarnations for a couple of issues but they were more of the same current slowed down dragging out stories with none of the X-Men i want to read about. Read a few of the new Justice League and dropped because it just wasn't giving me all i hoped for.
All about trying to see what can be done in characters i like but they just aren't captivating like they used to be. Sole exceptions at the moment are from DC: Flash and Suicide Squad.

Yes, but what if the Hernandezes somehow lost control of their creation and the new owners assigned Geoff Johns and Jim Lee to make it more in line with what fans want to see? I'd still buy issue # 1. C'mon, that would be interesting!

So what was the worst... evil kang-controlled Tony de-aged (The Crossing) ... Evil narcisisst drug dealer Tony (Superior) .. holographic insecure sorta dead Tony (current) I still think the Crossing takes the cake, though I agree Superior was close (I did dig the white armor though)

sadly there comes a point in every comicbook collectors life when you have to stop collecting. I don't think that's true.

Generally, I'll always give a book a chance if it features the JSA or Captain Britain.

Otto was trying to prove he could be the better Spidey and, as a result, did a lot of good, while Tony was just a straight-up douche behaving completely out of character because they thought it would be fun to have a naughty Iron Man. Of course, Marvel, who never met a concept they wouldn't beat into the ground, went ahead and did the same thing again with Captain America, with decidedly mixed results.
