I've been wondering what those little stone statues are for a while now so this bit of cultural insight was really timely. The second thing I enjoyed about this story was that the artisan who made the statues Masa reminded me a lot of Stan himself, was the likeness intentional? The ending certainly made me think so.

It was. Read it somewhere, not sure where, but it is Stan. I think it was the hair that tipped me off, I've noticed from the sketchbooks that he has a pretty distinct way of caricaturing his own hair style.
